After watching the forum JE said the goalkeeper has League 1 experience and some kind of contract thing to sort. I wonder if it will be Joe Lumley from QPR - Played for Bristol Rovers from January last season and maybe the contract part is because we are playing them tomorrow. Bit like the Nytanga transfer last season

During yesterdays coverage on BBC Northampton they said Freddie Woodman was the goalkeeper rumoured to be coming in on loan. Andy Peaks who was helping with commentary also said that was the name he'd heard mentioned. The other keeper could well be Jed Steer at Aston Villa, on the bench yesterday due to Mark Bunn having a knock - JED confirmed one of the keepers are required by their club at the open forum.

Everton (and Palace) apparently both after Woodman now after Hearts said they'd have him on a loan.  This is one move I cannot see happening.

It's definitely not Connor ripley either, signed a new 3 year deal at Middlesbrough and gone out for a season loan to burton - I wonder if this was the keeper with contractual issues that we were waiting on?

Honest truth I think it's now a bit of a debacle. KT and the money men will be getting itchy and looking for an excuse to sack JED if we don't start well. This pondering over a goalie, which makes his statement about competition for all places a bit farcical, will not have gone down too well.

They (and palace) want him permanently. It's hearts who want him on loan.

We can put the Adam Legzdins rumour to bed, he's set to sign for Burnley....

Yep, all the names we've been linked with are all signing elsewhere.

David Martin is still available, don't know if Jon McLaughlin is also still available - he was on trial at Hull recently. Maybe, Robert Green is sorting his situation out at Leeds and will then join.

Running out of possibilities aren't we?

It's all gone very quiet again - our local media seem to have forgotten to ask JED what the latest news is. Does this mean that we're going to end up with coddington by default - not exactly the experienced keeper we were after.

Can't help thinking we should have tied a decent keeper down early, instead of holding out for someone who was deemed as being that little bit better and ending up with nothing.

I don't for the life of me understand why we haven't signed either Martin or McLaughlin. Both experienced goalkeepers at this level, the only reason I can think is that we tried to sign them but they turned us down. JED did say he's had some disappointments during his search for a keeper.

Honestly, after witnessing our performance on Saturday, a keeper is the least of our problems. Granted Cornell isn't the best keeper out there but he's fairly solid for the time being. The result tonight is completely irrelevant, genuinely, the most important thing is the performance. JED needs to put a team out who are capable of 1) putting more than 3 passes together 2) have more in their armoury than just punting aimless balls up to Rico/Revell/Long (delete as appropriate) and 3) inspire his midfielders to do something with the ball in possession. If he can achieve even one of these then this will be significant progress from Saturday and also give us confidence that JED has some sort of tactical brain. My concern is that I think he's a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

Wrong mate, yes we do have other concerns across the pitch, but the goal keeping situation needs sorting, the longer its on its no good for anyone and Cornell is not the answer, he is not good enough!

The reason you need a quality goalkeeper is simple. Have a quality keeper and it will gain you x amount of points a season. On the other hand have a less competent keeper and it will cost you x amount of points during the course of a season.

In short a goalkeeper is a very important position.

It's a little ridiculous. I have to say we don't seem particularly prepared for the season, this is partly down to the investment which moved the goalposts.

In all fairness though the only place I've seen us linked with any particular keeper is on here, a vague Woodman rumour aside.

I agree that the situation is getting a little concerning but just because names that have been plucked out on here have gone elsewhere doesn't mean we're running out of options. There's a lot of keepers with league experience available for loan.

Agreed. I'm sure we have all been happy with the pedigree of players brought in recently (though a goalie would be nice). If they can't be moulded into a decent footballing side then I'm afraid this must be down to one man.

We were told as far back as January that Smith and the club were miles part on new contract terms and the club has had all these months to identify and sign a new No. 1 'keeper.  The failure to do so is ridiculous.

Now we have this investment, could this have changed the options? We can now look at talented young/good aged contracted players at L2/Conference teams no?

I was thinking in the style of Will Norris at Cambridge, but I've just noticed he signed for Wolves.

Im sure someone more knowledgable will know of some great lower league keepers.
