I'll be astonished if we have our squad more or less complete by the start of pre season.

I think we'll definitely have missed out on a few targets and will be scratching around a bit.

Why do you think that??? Yeah me may have missed out on a main target or two... Its like we would be the only club ever to miss out on a player we are after... Not saying that we have

It's just a personal opinion, not based on anything other than anecdotal chat.

It's like last season all over again, obviously we've been out bid on a lot of our targets, back for fitness testing in 2 days time  Grin we need at least another 6 players as a bare minimum, mid table budget my arse.

Just seen on LinkedIn (yeah someone still uses it) that Kelvin has connected with a player called Kieran Critchley, ex Blackburn striker. Played in Iceland and Australia too. He's a free agent, wonder if there is anything in that or if its just a random LinkedIn connection...

Would you have felt the need to say that if the adjective had been 'short', 'tall', 'blonde' or even 'ginger'?

It depends, would he have felt the need to describe him as such if he was any of those things? We'll never know.

However, I'd bet my house* on the fact he wouldn't have described, say, John Fleck as "that White midfielder that scored against us for Sheffield United"

*safe bet, I don't own my house!

You're probably right, but that doesn't necessarily make it fair to subtly infer some sort of discrimination. The guy has just used a description which narrows it down.

There are significantly more white players than BME players in the professional game in England (it was a 75/25 split in 2014). Just like being noticeably taller than average or having a rare hair colour hair, being BME is a distinguishing feature in football. Less so than it was, which is a great thing, but still the case.

But yes, back to the rumours! Sorry about the hijack...

Honestly my original comment was made mainly in jest, although I still believe the use of black was superfluous. No inference was intended, I don't know the poster at all.

On the rumours - Ball would be interesting but as Glastonbury said I'd assume at the very least he will be off to one of the big players in our league, if not stepping up to the Championship. Doesn't really address a glaring need in the squad either, but good players is good players!

I don't think so - your comments were politically opportunist/PC. I did not think that the poster needed to point out the player was black!

Here he is Mr doom and gloom... That's right JED is lying through his back teeth about the budget.

Every other club has all there player in except us. We are the only club ever to have missed out on a target, not saying that we have BTW. Every season the managers say would like to get the players in before pre season starts and it never happens.

Oh and it's a fitness assessment not fitness training, there is a whole world of difference

So what you are saying is that you don't agree with me making the comment but you agree with the comment?

Politically opportunistic? On a football forum? OK fella
