I bowl with a bloke that supports MK Don's  (yep there is one) and he reckons that David Martin is a good shot stopper but can't control his box. Sort of sounds like Adam Smith.

Well he was keeping Lee Nicholls out of their side, and some on here thought he was worth a million,so he cant be too bad.

I reckon we could do worse than Martin but I also have the feeling that if we were going to get him it would be done already.

Why don't we just retrain someone else to play in goal, who's the tallest??  Tongue

He hasn't signed for anyone yet and Charlton appeared favourites earlier in the summer because of the Karl Robinson link, so you never know.

Absolutely, we'll have to wait and see. My hunch was just based on the fact that, as with Powell, location would have been our trump card. He could be weighing up more money elsewhere vs the lack of upheaval with us I suppose.

All pie in the sky of course, we may have no interest.

This is the time of the summer where it changes to a buyers market as players start to run out of options...

As a goalkeeper the main purpose is to stop shots on goal. Surely all clubs will insist that goalkeepers can perform this basic requirement. If they are not classed as a "shot stopper" I doubt they will have played much professional football.

I only asked because earlier today the club put a tweet out saying they would announce a new signing at 1pm which I liked. Then noticed somebody had replied "Dave Martin by any chance?" When I went back to check to see who we were signing the message and answer had been deleted. Just wondered if the Dave Martin reply had miffed them off for some reason.

I think the club should develop the talent that we have already and train some of our existing players to play at centre back. I learn new skills every day at my job, why should a professional footballer be any different!?
Strikers trying to tackle = red card
Defenders shooting = row z

Players through training and experience learn every day. I dont know what you do for a living but for example an accountant isnt going to learn to be a builder. They can learn to build a wall but isnt going to be as strong and stable as a full time builder (no disrespect meant to builders or accountant)
