Given Adam posted all over twitter his farewell I guess the official instagram had to acknowledge - I am sure Adam has jumped the gun in terms of releasing details

On the other thread, some people seem pleased.  I think he is a quality keeper and whilst he does have some weaknesses (doesn't every L1 GK) I think we will miss him and struggle to get any better at this level.  I just hope he goes on to play regularly at a higher level and we make a sensible choice in replacing him!

I'm not surprised.

Whether it's plain and simple interest from clubs at a higher level, Adam's wishes to better himself or wage demands being too much for us, this doesn't surprise me.

We were fortunate to pick him up in the manner that we did. Preferably we should have extended his deal last summer, but again that may not have been possible.

I'm sure he will find himself a club in the Championship and I have no doubt he will go on to bigger and better things.

All this talk about his form etc confuses me a little.

Last season we were a solid team unit who dominated most games, defended from the front with a high press and as a result the defence and Adam looked fantastic as they had very little to do. This season we have faced a better standard of opponent and lets be honest, as a unit we have been poor. Far from defend from the front, we have sat back at times and the defence has been given minimal protection - as a result the back 4 and Adam have looked more exposed and all of them have made more mistakes.

He still makes saves that most keepers in this league simply cannot make.

He will be a big miss, but with all that said if we improve as a unit then any replacement will hopefully be a little less exposed next season.

Good luck to the lad.  Very good keeper who just needs to keep working hard and get the right coaching.

Not surprised he's going as doubt we would want to pay what he thinks he I see worth.

Just hope he doesn't do a Bunn and end up in someone's reserves for the rest of his career as there will have been no better learning than playing the last two season and all that has brought.

Choose your next move wisely Adam and don't just chase the money.

At the moment, he isn't as good as he thinks he is...

I think without doubt that Adam Smith is the best keeper we have had since Mark Bunn. Reading between the lines, it looks like we didn't try too hard to keep him which I find a bit strange. It will be a hard task to get someone better than him, although rumour has it that Bunn will be realised by Villa !

Not offering him a contract seems madness though. If it's a case of being too far apart in terms of what we would offer and what he wanted I guess I understand it but if we end up with Cornell in goal next season we will be in trouble.

I'm gutted smith has gone as despite some wobbly games I thought he was quality and we will struggle to get better than him.

Why try hard to keep an employee who'll you never be able to pay enough to keep?

Calm down, its day three of our close season and there is a long way to go before our squad for the next season is decided/confirmed.

Me too - he was a hero last season. Perhaps his ManU gaffs told us that.
