This thread will take some updating!  Grin

Personally I'll be very surprised if Lobjoit is starting ahead of Rico & Revell if they're all fit, at least at the start of the season. I think we need to be patient with the guy it is a huge jump he's taken, I wouldn't be surprised if he is only a bit part player next season as he gets used to being a Pro again.

There is no way I'd every start Rico & Revell together but there you go

I wouldn't play Rico and Revs together either, hence Lobjoit starting, I expect and hope a new signing will come in to push him down to the bench, same for Cornell, McWilliams and hopefully Taylor.

We could always go with 4-2-3-1 with Taylor and JJOT holding and Powell, Hoskins and another winger behind a main striker, which may solve the Taylor problem as no doubt he is a set piece threat, but he can't play holding midfield on his own.

I see, I thought you were jumping into JEDs mind rather than your own selection. I wouldn't disagree with too much but I'd perhaps worry about JJOT and Taylor in a two. Another option would be for a proper holding player to sit in behind them with Powell & Hoskins/AN Other flanking one of our strikers. Gives protection to Taylor, allows JJOT to play box to box and should hopefully free up two attacking midfielders/wingers to support the striker.

Still very early days

You forgot James Goff on your list of players. Probably will end up being 3rd choice keeper.

You answered you own question. JED has already said he won't be 1st team squad this season.

The four transfer listed players may still be here come August also, so surely they should be part of the squad, until the time comes when/if they go.

Sorry, I thought the title was team/squad 2017/18 season? So he will be part of the squad then.

Powell I thought was left sided "winger". You have him down as right midfield!

Yep, I thought he was right. Will adjust after the next signing, hopeful of a 4-2-3-1 formation next season.

hopeful of a 4-2-3-1 formation next season.
Just because it worked last year, doesnt mean that it will be implemented this year.
Different managers have different tactics..

If we have 3 good centre-backs, play 3-5-2, Good defensively because opposition attacks can be stopped in midfield, When used with 2 quick wing backs. It can be strong going forward as well, also it has served us well, in the past. Far better than the diamond.formation.in my book.

Talking of the  lads on the transfer list? Surely going to take clubs coming in and agreeing to take them of our hands in free?
Beautyman and McCourt to non league?
Hanley never to make a league start?

Can see Rod going to league two team being apart of Wilders squad.

If they did drop down they would probably all have to take wage cuts, so would want a portion of their current contracts with us paying up. This might cost us a few quid and eat into the transfer/wages budget for 2017-18.

As for 3-5-2 I also enjoy watching this formation, Moloney would be comfortable here, not sure about Buchanan. However, good to have options of 3 or 4 different formations as opposed to the end of last season when we only had 1 option, the dull but effective diamond.

We are still crying out for attacking pace, we have Powell and Hoskins, hopefully at least 2 more attacking players to come in of at least their caliber.

I'd love for one or more of them to prove us wrong and turn it round similar to when JJOT was transfer listed under Wilder. Can't see much hope of it happening but we shouldn't completely rule them out

For me, the only workable solution is for Taylor to play as a kind of deep-lying playmaker alongside a properly aggressive defensive midfielder in a Wilder style 4-2-3-1. This is what I'd like to see next season:

                                         New GK
Moloney  New CB   New CB   Buchanan

                                       Taylor     New DM

                          Powell       O'Toole      Hoskins/New Attacking Mid

Revell/Rico/Lobjoit (whoever shows the best form)

That is based on my suspicion that Taylor (now he's re-signed) will prove to be virtually undroppable for JED once again. To be fair to him, Taylor looked OK in a 4-2-3-1 during the initial honeymoon period under Page, which is arguably when we played our best football of the season.

Having said all that, I fully expect JED to stick to what he knows and go with a diamond with two up front and O'Toole and Taylor in the middle together (despite the abundance evidence that this doesn't work). Can a leopard change his spots? We will see.
