Cobblers have signed Gateshead left-back George Smith for an undisclosed fee, reports the Northampton Chronicle and Echo.

An interesting choice... A 2nd choice left-back to replace Hanley? JE must have seen something in him...

Good experience for one so young too. Proper cover for Buchs at last, which can only make him up his game...

Hanley will no doubt be paid off now as I can't see anyone coming in for him....2 year deal ffs  Roll Eyes well done Pagey!

Good news - seems to have a lot of games under his belt for a young player. Will definitely provide a proper level of competition with Buchanan, who will inevitably get injured or more suspensions at some point.

Clearly looks a better prospect than Hanley.

Cover at left back was needed, seems a good option without breaking the bank if Hanley is never going to get a chance.

Hanley had his chance....Stourbridge in the cup....came on and conceded free kick straight away from which they scored....never been seen since

JE was a decent left back so knows what's required....

based on that Stourbridge performance none of our squad should have been seen since. Page was at fault for most of our dismal performances due to his selections

Also came on at left wing rather than left back.

Based on that performance, the whole squad should be cleared out!

George has good pedigree from the looks of things, I have faith in JE.

First a winger. Now adequate cover at left back. What is this nonsense? We'll have a balanced squad if he carries on like this.

Made an impressive number of games for Barnsley whilst they were in L1 before winning playoffs. For a 20yr old to have played so many 1st team games is good.

hopefully he does better for us than his picture on offy website does for him, he doesn't look like a sportsman at all with those glasses on. If I was him I'd defo be looking down the contact lense option. I hope to god he makes me look like a d*ck come the end of next season

He'd do well to unseat Buchanan. Happy to have him sign but really there are more urgent areas of the side that need urgent addition.

Any idea how he went from impressing at a play off winning league one side as a 19 year old to the Vanarama National League in the space of a year?
