Good signing, Welcome Billy!! I've had a look at his stats, as I do for lots of players.....a strange anomaly with him! 2015/16 season with Cheltenham he scored 11 goals in 17 games from mid September to mid December, and then failed to score in his last 15 games. 2016/17 season with Cheltenham he scored 9 goals in 18 games from mid September to mid December but only 6 in his last 27 games of the season. Seems to hit a purple patch then struggles!! Doesn't like the cold?!  |

Maybe this accounts for a drop off? |

I think the way JED decides to employ Waters will go a long way to deciding our formation and tactics this season. The Cheltenham forum suggests that Johnson played him on the wing at times, where his pace and work rate were presumably an asset.
As I've said before, I think 4-3-3 suits our current personnel and it sounds like Waters could fit right into that:
New GK
Moloney Barnett/new CB New CB Buchanan
O'Toole Foley Taylor
Powell Revell/Rico Waters
Realistically, however, I think this signing makes it even more likely that JED will stick with what he knows and play 4-4-2 with Waters playing off a target man. At least it looks less likely that we'll be seeing a repeat of the Hoofroyd-esque twin target men next year.

Knowing Johnson you are probably correct, he was good at bringing the worst out of players. |
