Good signing, Welcome Billy!!

I've had a look at his stats, as I do for lots of players.....a strange anomaly with him!

2015/16 season with Cheltenham he scored 11 goals in 17 games from mid September to mid December, and then failed to score in his last 15 games.
2016/17 season with Cheltenham he scored 9 goals in 18 games from mid September to mid December but only 6 in his last 27 games of the season.

Seems to hit a purple patch then struggles!! Doesn't like the cold?!  Grin

yes, and crewe are flying high up the league system because of it................ah,hang on.

And nothing at all to do with having to sell 69 academy players in the last 20years for a fee.  Rather puts our efforts into perspective.

Sounds like from the Robins board that Johnson has not always played him as an out and out forward - sometimes as a wideman.

Maybe this accounts for a drop off?

Maybe, seems he's been used up top, left and right! Sam Hoskins the second?

Tht means that Johnson made two good signings Waters and Hoskins and now we have both of them. A good signing methinks

You say that. But we're still stuck with Moloney at right back...

I think the way JED decides to employ Waters will go a long way to deciding our formation and tactics this season. The Cheltenham forum suggests that Johnson played him on the wing at times, where his pace and work rate were presumably an asset.

As I've said before, I think 4-3-3 suits our current personnel and it sounds like Waters could fit right into that:

                          New GK

Moloney Barnett/new CB  New CB  Buchanan

            O'Toole      Foley     Taylor

     Powell              Revell/Rico               Waters

Realistically, however, I think this signing makes it even more likely that JED will stick with what he knows and play 4-4-2 with Waters playing off a target man. At least it looks less likely that we'll be seeing a repeat of the Hoofroyd-esque twin target men next year.

Just to confirm, are you saying likely or unlikely for the twin target men?

Knowing Johnson you are probably correct, he was good at bringing the worst  out of players.
