Cobblers have signed 19 year old Manchester United centre-back Regan Poole on a season-long loan, the club has announced.

As of 17:36 the club haven't announced anything, other than the announcement has been delayed.

I'm taking the fact that the club have released an image of Poole wearing a club shirt posing inside Sixfields as proof that we've signed him. If we hadn't, the club would have withheld the image?

Everything is going through as expected, but there is still one piece of paper that needs signing off... until then, it isn't done

Good Evening!

I spotted this on our forum yesterday (Newport)  but couldn't see anything on here to verify it so thought it was a wind up.
Reagan was a regular in our back four as a 16/17 year old, progressing from our academy, before United paid big money for us, but peanuts to them!
Obviously the Justin connection has sorted this..
What with Justin, Sam Foley and now Reagan Poole, you are becoming Newport County in a parallel universe!

Will I be welcome at Sixfields to support the Cobblers in my Newport County top?

Always welcome mate. Don't forget the pre-season friendly that's coming up at the end of July.

I know absolutely nothing about new players or potential signings, I leave that to the many experts here.

What I can say with some certainty though is Mr Edinburgh appears to have better connections and possibly gains more respect from players than his predecessor. I can only guess as I've never played professionally but having a manager who commands the attention and can inspire players must be key to building a team. Look at all the managers we've had and ask yourself out of them all, who you would "run through walls" for?

On paper it seems we have a much better team than this time last year. Thank you Mr Edinburgh.

Another good signing on the face of it.

Competition for places is clearly going to be very high this year, which will make a pleasing change from last year's sense of stagnancy.

However, JED will need to decide on his first choice centre back pairing fairly early on in pre-season in order for them to develop a cohesive partnership. On paper, Taylor and Poole might constitute a well-balanced 'little and large'/aerially dominant/ball-playing partnership but Barnett and Taylor might be a 'safer option', particularly against some of the division's more physical outfits. Time will tell.

Or he could go with 3 at the back...

I think there is less emphasis on neeing big strong defenders in League 1 because the 'Target Man' striker is not as common. The strikers at this level tend to have a bit more pace and a bit more trickery so the defenders need to adapt.

On paper i would say that our current 3 plus Brady are better than our defence last year. I think our our midfield didn't provide a lot of protection to the defence last season and hopefully our tactics improve in this area.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Poole play as the DM as base of the diamond formation should JE persevere with this formation

Quick appraisal please Phil - is he good enough for L1?

Thanks
