Please don't state the obvious chap...many on here like to wallow in their own deluded hype!
No, Smith didn't make two, let alone three howlers that night...as stated above and for any other idiots...Rashford bearing down at lightning pace, ain't Constantine, Hemmings or any other lower league dross!
But if it makes you feel better...!

Smith had time to clear the ball and Rashford too for that matter. He dallied, had a think about it and even then
Managed to miss the ball. Ok perhaps the 3rd wasn't a howler but the othe two were. It just so happens that most papers all thought he had a disastrous night except you. So for once you were wrong and most there that night thought so too! Poor darling Rashford bearing down on him at full speed; whatever next. Still think after Bunn he has been our standout goalie!

Pick up a back pass v anyone and you pay the price.
Most lower league keepers have a fufundamental faults in their game that cant be ironed out and  a team will play to his strengths to avoid weaknesses.
Some have little footballing skills which causes them poor distribution, hopeless on the wrong foot and others cant command their box or organise the defence.
The worst are those who are poor on crosses and unsure of when to come off their line..
Britains worst ever ambassador  to Thailand had a little of all the above but was a very able keeper in the lower leagues.

I was (am) a big fan of Smith but the mistakes against United were poor, it doesn't really matter who they were against, he wasn't beaten by a bit of skill. The fact that Rashford is so quick makes it worse in some ways, Smith should have recognised who the player was and just stuck it in row Z. It's a bit like cricket, when the batsmen wants to take a quick single they factor in who the fielder is, how quick, good arm etc.

Having said all that not sure what this has to with McCourt, of all the things we can blame him for Smiths form is surely not one of them  Grin

It's already been passed by the House of Lords;
McCourt was s***!
Bill No 47 now being discussed;
Smith: Howler or Hero!  Grin

Why the desperation to absolve Smith of the responsibility for our loss to Man United?

It doesn't matter who the opposition were- Smith made an absolute howler and Rashford took advantage. Any League One striker would have also scored in that situation.

Smith was a good League Two goalkeeper but League One found him out. Hence why he's now gone to be #2 at another League One club.

Be honest...you're (see what I did there?) just bereft of any sense of dry humour!

Nice to have a girl friend like that Coolie to fetch your beer. Wonder if she still has a dry sense of humour after carrying that lot Evil

In my view it was a freak goal and could have happened to any goalkeeper.

Slightly back on track. I picked my daughter up from a East Midlands airport a couple of hours ago and coincidentally Jak came through arrivals with the rest of the Chesterfield players who were either out in Italy or Portugal for their pre season camp. I wished him the best of luck.
