With Kyle Walker looking set to move to Man City for £50million (http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/40598351) I was wondering what the previous highest fee paid for any ex cobblers player is, anyone know? Can't imagine anyone beats that even taking into account inflation etc.

It must be I think. I can't remember any others going for more. A shame he was only on loan to us, We could have made a lot of money if he had have been a signing.

Phil Neal was probably worth more than the lot of them, based on today's values.

Berahino to Stoke to £12m. Emyr Hughes must have gone for a few million?

Whilst Walker may achieve more England caps then Phil; (50).
There's absolutely no chance of him winning the European Cup 3 times.
Phil Neal remains truly our greatest ex-Cobbler.

I didn't think he was either but would be nice just to  get 5% of that fee wouldn't it

Of course they count - if you look at a players stats all clubs they play for officially count in their professional record including goals, red cards etc

Certainly a homesick talented 18 year old from Sheffield who was never going to sign permanently for us but indisputable an ex cobbler and good luck to him.

No, what I mean is, in this meaningless debate, they don't count to ME.   Wink

He was never our player but he wore the shirt during a competitive match for us meaning that he was our player

if that makes sense

I remember Beckham doing that lifetime achievement award speech at spoty and he mentioned how proud he was to play for all the great clubs he turned for, including his loan spell at Preston.  I think the likes of Johnson and walker look back on their spells with us fondly too.
Walker was a loan, Johnson was our player.

Whether he was contracted to us or not, we played a part in getting him to where he is today. His first senior competitive appearance was for us, I know for a fact Spurs scouts made their judgements based largely on his performances for us, and he tweets about us whenever we're making headlines for whatever reason, from Cardoza to wining the League Two title. He was never one of ours but we played a part and I think he knows that.
