As has already been highlighted the two wing backs did not work at all. Buchs got forward far less than he did when he played in a flat 4, also he isnt the most comfortable on the ball which means he generally just chips the ball behind the opposition right back when he does get forward.

Felt sorry for Powell as he looked completely lost at RWB, why Phillips didnt start is beyond me, he left Barnett so exposed on the right hand side it seemed obvious if a goal was to come it would come from that side. The 3 at the back dealt with most of the danger pretty well.

I actually thought Crooks looked tidy when he got the ball to feet, has quite a languid style but watching the ball sail over his head all the time he couldnt impact the game much.

I have never been a big Taylor hater despite his frustrating play last year but he really was dreadful. The biggest difference between him and Kasim is that Kasim looked to take the ball off the centre backs, was already on the turn and then looked to play the ball simple and get us moving. Kasim or JJOT needs to play that deeper role as we need someone more comfortable on the ball there. Taylor tends to receive the ball with his back still to the midfield meaning he has to turn and hence why he gets caught on the ball so much. He also is always looking for the Hollywood diagonal pass which even its clearly not on he attempts.

Waters ran a lot but every time he got it tended to go back towards our defence and never really looked to run in behind. To me he appears to be a Hoskins replica, lots of pace but would be shocked if he scores more than Rico. Also as he has in pre season Bowditch offered very little, was very lightweight and didnt get involved at all.

I know this all seems so negative but the performance really was that poor. JED didnt really build a huge amount of credit with the fans last year as our performances were so bad last year also. Its not like the performances were good and we didnt get the results, or vice versa. The results were poor and so were the performances. I hope that the performances improve ASAP as our next 3 league games are Fleetwood, Charlton and Posh which does not bode well.

IF we are sticking with the 3-5-2 I would go with this

                   Cornell
     Barnett   Taylor    Pierre
Moloney                      Smith
              Kasim JJOT
                 Crooks
         Waters/Long Rico

Anyway I am off to QPR tomorrow so hoping for a hugely improved performance.
