Shrewsbury fan here, I do think you need to ignore the bookies lack of knowledge that have us as relegation favourites. Pre season counts for nothing but we did beat Wolves, Villa, Cardiff and Burton and from our performances this pre season compared to last I don't think our team with the new signings are as gash as you seem to think. Hopefully for both our sakes the our win will not look so bad in 10 games time.
Both our clubs have made signings which are pretty much under the radar so it is probably very much a case of how quick they gel.
From our perspective I thought our defence (apart from the mix up for your only shot on goal) and midfield were very good for the first game of a new season and we absolutely deserved the win. We did lack a cutting edge but we were playing one up front giving us more control in midfield, the way we knocked it about at times and got into 'areas' meant Northampton hardly had a kick first half and for good periods in the second half.
I thought your back 3 were solid and the lead Pierre was very good. It was only from your substitutions and going more direct in the last 20 minutes that the game opened up. I was still surprised you didn't keep Richards on he had very little service but will always score half a chance. As for the penalty shouts I thought our 2 were clear penalties and so was yours.
I will watch your results with interest in the next few weeks!
One other thing, the previous time we played you was the 1-1 at your place and Paul Hurst's starting 11 that day was quite different to the Micky Mellon team that lost 4-2 in the October team.
