Shrewsbury fan here,
From our perspective I thought our defence (apart from the mix up for your only shot on goal) and midfield were very good for the first game of a new season and we absolutely deserved the win. We did lack a cutting edge but we were playing one up front giving us more control in midfield, the way we knocked it about at times and got into 'areas' meant Northampton hardly had a kick first half and for good periods in the second half.
I thought your back 3 were solid and the lead Pierre was very good. It was only from your substitutions and going more direct in the last 20 minutes that the game opened up. I was still surprised you didn't keep Richards on he had very little service but will always score half a chance. As for the penalty shouts I thought our 2 were clear penalties and so was yours.
Fair enough comment Salop, but felt that you would never score! 50% of our side "failed to turn up". Was not surprised that Richards was subbed he had a poor afternoon altho' he had poor service. Most of us felt that Salop deserved to win overall. Both goalies had relatively quiet games; ours a bit busier. Your tactics with one up front worked on the day, but that was due more to our highly disappointing display which enabled yr midfield to dominate .
