Last pre-season friendly before the season starts next week.
JED's former team are the opposition and the return of Ben Tozer.
Hopefully no injuries and a confidence boost before next week.

Will be at this one. A chance to watch the latest group without pressure, oh and to pick up a wad of pre-ordered tickets for the coming campaign!

Good Evening! If you see Ben Tozer please let us (Newport supporters ) know! We havent seen him for over six months! mysterious illnesses and injuries and a falling out with the previous manager have left him more inconspicuous than the invisible man! Phil in Northampton

How is your pre-season going Phil? Any decent players to look out for in your side. Tozer aside, of course.

Well so far, and judging from afar, we have been playing a very mixed bag of triallists, youngsters and hopefuls against lesser oppositions. Defence from last seasons epic escape mostly intact, but strikers are a bit of a luxury. no real money to spend so its a gamble on youth and not quite made its. Loan striker signed today from Bristol City and well travelled Frank Nouble is our option, Key will be further loan deals as helped us last year. Its tough at the bottom and it would be nice this season to be more than five minutes from oblivion come the final day! Ever optimistic i will be happy with mid table! Phil in Northampton

We at the Cobblers know all about life at the bottom, Phil. It is a long hard road but stay with your club and relish the good times when they come as they will in the football cycle.

Are we thinking the same line-up as the Derby game starts today?

Might be too soon for Chris Long to play any part in this one.
I think it will be a similar lineup to the Derby game.
Anyone know if O'Toole is back from injury?

No reason for Long not to play a part. Full pre season under his belt & played as recently as Tuesday for Burnley v PNE

No o'toole again - disappointing that it now looks like he'll miss the start of the season.

So Powell continues at right wing back and Smith gets a chance in front of Buchs.
Revell replaces Rico, Kasim or Crooks further forward?

In addition to JJOT being absent no Maloney. If we are going play with 3 centre backs he will be important going forward.

Yeah, quality competition in EVERY position (bar goalkeeper until next week) is a real bummer ain't it... Wish we could swap this squad (best on paper in living memory) for the one RP assembled eh?

My concern is the squad is too big players will get bored if they're left out.

In what way is it unbalanced? We have pretty much two people competing for each position on the pitch(slightly more up front but expected loaning out of Iaciofano and Lobjoit will reduce this) as well as having players that can play in a multitude of positions, giving them even more chance of getting some game time and us the option of changing formation at the drop of a hat.

Understandable but injuries and suspensions always decimate squads over a season so isn't it nice quality will replace quality, rather than quality for dross... Also, the youngsters will no doubt head out on loan once the real action begins... Let's embrace the fact we've got so much quality rather focus on any negatives
