After a disappointing start to the season away at Shrewsbury, Cobblers play their first home league game of the season against Fleetwood on 12th August.
Fleetwood started the season well, winning 2-0 at home to Rotherham on opening day.
John-Joe O'Toole and Shaun McWilliams are expected to be fit and available for selection. Sam Hoskins and Sam Foley continue to recover from their long-term injuries.

For all the glitz and the glamour of 12 new signings, its John Joe and Big Brendan we need in this team, but I don't think neither of them will be ready for this one.

fleetwood 209 for 3 off 20. Cobblers 124 all out. Or in football terms 1-3. Only joking 2-0 Cobblers.

What are people's thoughts on a starting 11?
I didn't go to QPR, but based on my view from the Shrewsbury game (Taylor and Bowditch get nowhere near) and other poster's comments from last night, I'd like to see:
Cornell Pierre A.Taylor Poole Phillips Smith Crooks Kasim Waters Long Rico

Wouldn't go against that with either of Rico or Revs starting...

Same here, if JED is sticking with this formation that looks close to our best line up with Maloney and O'Toole the only two to come in (plus keeper if/when we sign one). I would think that JED will want to give Powell a few more chances at wing back to give us a bit more attacking thrust, let's hope he learns the role quickly. I think with Rico/Revs we need to turn their ageing legs into a strength and get them to play solely within the width of the box and occupy the centre backs, hopefully creating room for others.

I can't quite believe people are suggesting Buchs should be dropped after only two games. He has been one of our best and reliable players the last two years, give him at least five games to learn his new role in the team guys.

First game of the season for me and I'm, er, really looking forward to it.
Cobblers 6 Fleetwood 7 with Fleetwoods winner coming in the 93rd minute, the Cobblers having had a blatant penalty waved away in the 92nd.

In a weird way having Powell there gives us less attacking thrust atm. Moloney and Phillips both play the position well and get forward so I would hope we stick with those two for that position.

It's nothing against Buchs at all, I love him and he would be my left back in a four all day long but we don't play a four. Playing him at wing back is basically playing him out of position. He's not going to learn to beat a man or to have more pace no matter how many games he has there. If smith is a better wing back then he should play, reputation shouldn't matter. In a weird way having Powell there gives us less attacking thrust atm. Moloney and Phillips both play the position well and get forward so I would hope we stick with those two for that position.
I don't disagree with you, was thinking more in JEDs eyes. If we stick with the 352 I'd guess Phillips will be 3rd choice in the right. We need to keep him around as well in case we switch back to a 4 at any point otherwise there is no backup at right back. Probably a bit harsh on him given how he has performed when given a chance

Definitely our strongest team in this formation, but will JED have the guts to continue to leave out 'big names' such as M.Taylor, Bowditch and Powell?
