So amidst the fall out from Saturday's debacle, there's a football match at Sixfields tonight.
Is anyone actually going to attend?

The nice weather will bolster what is likely to still be a sub-2000 attendance. I think we'll play a strong team and Cambridge a weak one. I think we'll win 2-1. We have to have six regular first teamers in the starting XI. I would go with: CODDINGTON MOLONEY(c) BARNETT TAYLOR SMITH KASIM CROOKS POWELL GRIMES BOWDITCH IACIOFANO

I think the fact that Gary deegan has been man of the match for them for the last 2 games running says it all about Cambridge at the moment and that is their first team - they recently lost their best player by a mile (Luke berry) to Luton.

I thought that was one of the non u-21 clubs biggest complaints from last year was they couldn't play fringe players. Iaciofano on his own! Where is Poole?
Poole is away with Wales U-21s isn't he? Another reason why this competition is a farce, they say they want the young players at CatA academies to get competitive game time and they schedule a round of games on International week while a lot are away with U-21 national squads

I think we will do well to get 1000 despite the cheap prices and good weather

Yes, I'm going with one of my two lads - the older one isn't interested.
Hopefully, JED will see sense with his team selection and formation. More importantly if he does and it works that he sticks with it in the upcoming league games.

I'll be disappointed if as many as 1,000 show up for this farce of a competition.
I hope we play 5-3-2 with Rico and Revell up front and get stuffed 4-1.

I'd go for
.............Coddington....... Moloney A.Taylor Pierre Buchanan McWilliams Crooks Grimes Waters Long Lobjoit
with Moloney & Waters supplying width on the right, and Buchanan & Grimes giving width on the left. Crooks deep lying and McWilliams box to box. I would also like to have seen Poole partner Pierre in central defense but he's off to join the Welsh U21 squad under the tutelage of Rob Page, lucky boy.
Then with it for a few games

I respect your decision not to turn up, equally if people wish to turn up that's their decision, and should also be respected too.

I won't be turning up for this competition, but am interested to see if JE sticks to his 5-3-2 in this one.
If that is the case I'd like to see:
Cornell
Poole Taylor Pierre Powell Smith
McWilliams Kasim
Bowditch
Lobjoit/Waters Iaciofano
Not adverse to Crooks or Grimes playing instead of Kasim/Bowditch, or even Waters behind the front two, but we have a big squad and after Saturday there is no reason not to see how the people on the fringes will get on.

Where did I say I didn't respect other people's decisions? What about you respecting my right to be disappointed if 1,000 people show up?

Pretty much agree. IF JED is staying then the formation wont change so it would be interesting to see how it went with attacking wing backs and pace up front. As much as Lobjoit and Iaciofano deserve a chance I'd be giving the Water/Long partnership a chance to prove they should play together in the league games. Would definitely be bringing at least one of the other two off the bench though, Lobjoit in particular could be a good option up front as an impact sub

I hope we play the same starting 11 in the exact formation and win 4-0 with Revell getting a hat-trick.
Be interested to see the response from that. But i'd guess it will be 'its a mickey mouse cup against a weak L2 side, so it changes nothing''

The thing is I don't think anyone is saying it is impossible for the current X1 in the same formation to win or even win well some times - but the style of football wont change without - at the very least - personell changes. Buchs won't suddenly find an extra gear of pace or the ability to beat a full back, R&R won't suddenly become a quick / mobile forward line. Given that 5-3-2 is JEDs preference tonight would be a good chance to see how it plays with Smith and Powell at wing back with Waters and Long up front, the presence of pace in those two key areas might just help move away from the turgid rubbish served up so far. To some of us it is not (solely) about results, it is the style of play and performance that needs to change.

Yes I agree and ive said previously that the style is as important as the formation. If we keep the same style and simply change R&R and put in W&L it will get worse, not better as the ball will just come back even quicker than it does now. He want's 5-3-2 and has signed lots of players to specifically play that formation. I think he needs to play the right players in the right positions and get them doing the right things! 5-3-2 isn't the loan problem. As its always said its totally down to opinions, but mine is Powell isn't the answer at wing back. That gives you the complete opposite problem to Buchanan! If Regan Poole isn't available ( ?) then 5-3-2 will mean the same back 3 again. For me the only musts tonight are : Smith gets a game, Joe and Leon get at least 30 mins each if not more, grimes is saved for the league.
