Cobblers manager Justin Edinburgh has been sacked, the club has announced.
Probably a few days late in my opinion, as it will now be too late for Edinburgh's replacement to sign any players, but I'm happy we'll be getting a new manager.
Thoughts on the news?

He knew he was a dead man on Tuesday - totally went through the motions . No one vocally supported him either . He has himself to blame - poor one dimensional football and refused to do anything about it . The team selection on Saturday defied belief .

Narrow diamond formations.
Dreadful inflexible 5-3-2 with no recognised wing backs.
Rico and Revell partnership.
I honestly wonder if my Rushden and Diamond supporting mates were correct in thinking he's on a mission to get us relegated!
Since last autumn, it really has been some of the worst football I have witnessed as a Cobblers fan. Really hoping the next manager can manage an attacking style of play.

Mixed feelings for me. As I've said before, reading 'Living on the Volcano' has given me a greater appreciation of the stresses and strains of football management (the section on our our own sacking of Aidy Boothroyd is very revealing). For what it's worth, JED struck me as a pretty hard-working and honest guy. The general consensus on here - in July at least - was that his summer recruitment was pretty good too. On a human level it is never nice for someone to lose their job, but JED did himself no favours with his self-confessed 'stubbornness' surrounding formations and selection.
KT now has to learn from the mistakes of his previous appointments:
1. Don't rush. Both JED and Page were fairly rapid appointments. Obviously, it would be great to bring in someone good ASAP, but I would much rather we take a couple of weeks to have a proper interview process and do due diligence than to make the wrong choice again.
2. Get someone on the way up, not on the way down. A lot of us raised alarm bells when JED was appointed despite being sacked by a team below us in the league; unfortunately we were correct. Having said that, I would make an exception for Hasselbank because QPR is a strange club which has claimed many illustrious victims.
3. Get somebody with a progressive tactical vision
Page and Edinburgh were both fundamentally defensive managers whose sides lacked pace, width and creativity. I want a manager with a genuine tactical brain whose first instinct is to win games and who possesses the ability to adapt the formation to suit the players available.
For me, Ardley, Hasselbank and Tisdale (I see Exeter are currently top of L2 BTW) would all fulfil those criteria. Two of them would require compensation, but then so did Wilder and that turned out OK.

Well done to KT for doing the right thing, just had to sit through the drive home listening to numpties on radio Northampton expressing their astonishment that he could be sacked after only 4 matches without knowing the full facts.

My apologies to anyone that was having a quiet pint, or a meal, in the Spread Eagle in Croydon, when a loud "Get in!" came from a shaven headed Cobblers fan sitting by the window, when this came up on the screen this evening. Im a lot happier now.

Irchy, you are right, I also listening to that hour on way home, I was shouting at the radio at the rubbish that was being spouted. The only person who talks sense on the radio is Sammo, who on Tuesday night was spot on,trouble is the station doesn't appear to like honesty and prefers vanilla comments all the time. They were even moaning about the goalkeeper signing, which was clearly needed. Justin was totally disengaged with the fans and that would not have helped Thankfully he has gone now

The amount of people on the radio Northampton and Chron pages that criticise the sacking after "4" games is amazing. Clearly these folk don't understand that it's been over a much longer period and that not one single supporter that goes to games disagrees with the decision , that I know of .

JED had clearly lost the dressing room as Page had before him and once that happens there's no coming back whoever the manager is, just look at Mourinho's last season at Chelsea. JED has only himself to blame and his stubbornness with formation that everybody else, fans, players etc knew wasn't and never would work.
