Quite staggering that either JE or Melville hadn't addressed the lack of width in the squad.

It is. I personally don't think it's as much as an issue as some make out though.

Get the formation right and we can cope without proper width until January.

The best Cobblers sides i've ever watched included great players out wide. From memory teams that got promoted included good wingers, Holmes, Adams, Martin Smith & Josh Lowe. We only  have one on the books as far as I can see in Powell, we needed more!

Powell and Waters could play these roles, until the Jan window opens and we can offload some of the plethora of central midfielders we have.
IMHO I think we have enough to stay up with a manager like Billy Davies at the helm, even mid table.
