I received the sad news on Saturday that Nick Haycox had passed away, he had been fighting cancer for a while now. I'm sure quite a few people on here knew Nick, he used to write in the NTFC match programme and was quiz master at quite a few events run by the Trust and others. Nick was an extremely knowledgeable football fan and a season ticket holder at the Cobblers and NCCC for many years and great company at any sporting event. He was an Earls Barton original but had lived in Gt Doddington for quite a while and he was a top man. Deepest sympathy to his wife, Margaret and 2 sons, Thomas and John. He will be missed.

I didn't know Nick either but that name is definitely familiar. Thoughts are with his family at this time.

Oh that's a shame, I used to read his Referee's Notes column in the Chron. I'm sure this was he?

So upset. I saw him in the Cobblers' shop a couple of seasons ago and he told me he'd been given only months to live and we had a big hug because what can you say in a case like that? Then much later I saw him in the crowd at a T20 game at the County and he looked good and told me he was in remission and I felt good about that. Condolences to all his family and friends.

I remember Nick as a County League umpire back in the 80's. He used to regularly stand for Horton House.

If anyone hears of any funeral arrangements I'd be grateful to know.

If anyone hears of any funeral arrangements I'd be grateful to know.
There will be a celebration of the life of Nicholas Haycox on Friday 22nd September, at noon, at Earls Barton Methodist Church, Broad Street, Northants, NN6 OND. This will be followed by a light lunch in the chapel rooms. At 2.30pm there will be a very brief committal at Nene Valley Crematorium, Great Doddington. Nicholas did not like having to wear a suit and tie and he loved colour, so we ask that you wear something comfortable and if you do want to wear a suit or black, that you add a splash of colour. We ask that there be no flowers but if you do want to make a remembrance gift it should go to the National Autistic Society. These may be sent to Toby Hunt Funeral Director, 34 The Square, Earls Barton, Northampton, NN6 ONA, or may be placed in one of the collection plates at the doors of the chapel.
