We obviously need attacking midfielders to vent pressure. Powell, Bowditch and probably Waters will all be ripe for replacement and JFH is probably working on that now in the free agent market.
Shame we couldn't get Berry of Cambridge or Appiah that went to Wimbledon.
Grimes?

I don't know if anyone noticed that the ref, Mr Kinseley, came from Rayleigh which is 6 MILES from Southend, pretty much like having someone from Billing reffing the Cobblers !!

Having watched the highlights this morning, two really disappointing goals to concede.
And what was Crooks doing to get himself sent off? Totally needless, could have just walked away slowly if he was trying to get in the way and block the free kick without getting booked again.
Leaves us a bit short of quality for Tuesday, meaning Kasim will definitely be getting a start.

We've just got to get as many points as we can until January and then when the window opens jimmy can make additions, it does mean that we're likely to have a big squad as we're not going to be able to pay off the likes of bowditch, Powell and kasim. I can't see there being great quality in the free market to be honest - most players who are unattached haven't got a club for a reason.

And Powell will get another start pretty much by default.

Hopefully Smith will be back from injury, or maybe Waters out wide instead. JFH can't have been impressed with Powell yesterday.

I couldn't believe Powell lasted 45 minutes let alone the full game. We should have put them to bed in the first half. They were awful. But massively improved after the break and after their second, I was certain they'd go on to win the game so was happy with the point in the end.

It was Crooks' superb finish from a straightforward pass that made the goal. Powell was guilty all game of drifting out of position and into the middle of the park. Their 24 had the run of Roots Hall from right back. Equally just reading Casey's ratings, he blames Barnett and Taylor for the second, but Kasim was guilty of losing his marker and as all too often this season, he stopped (or is incapable of) chasing back. I also happen to think he and Grimes switched off at the free kick, and should have been charging out far quicker.

I agrre about Crooks well taken goal; I entirely agree with most on here ref Powell. He did make the goal tho' - the Southend video clip on UTube clearly indicates it. Casey's Chron's report was reasonably accurate. Did you hear that Cobblers supporter bellowing loudly in an anguished tone "Come on Town"? I too 'fort that they defended ok with perhaps just 2 real scary moments. Perhaps Ingram was man of the match. Not so long ago that game might have ended in a defeat!
