Although to be fair you have a head start Smiley

Plymouth exile here....nice to see a forum thread that thinks we might be too good ...we haven't had/aren't predicting many of those this season.

In an attempt to cheer myself up I am researching the best as in witty/funny/apt and OK abusive nicknames bestowed on players , however far back you want to go....not just Northampton ones either....my current favourites are Split Pin and the Afghan Hound....

Also do you have your own Rambo/Beast/Psycho/Trigger?

Whilst I can't with you luck for tomorrow I hope you stay up as I have a relative not far from you so its a nailed on away day for me....I still remember the wind swept 2-0 where the entire game seemed to played at the other end of the ground!

Best for the rest of the season starting Wednesday!

One of my favourite footballing stories:

Howard Wilkinson, chairman of the League Managers' Association:

"My best memories of Bobby are the funny ones, all the more funny because he remained blissfully unaware, nor offended that his faux pas became a source of such fun.

"At one England Under-21 gathering, I selected Shola Ameobi who was a young striker at Newcastle under him. Bobby had also bought at great expense Carl Cort, a striker from Wimbledon.

"Shola had about six Christian names, most of them, to me, unpronounceable and in an attempt to put him at his ease on his debut performance, I called the lad over and asked him what Bobby called him when he was at the club.

"With absolutely no sense of resentment, rather more with a sense of love and understanding, Shola said, 'Carl Cort, mostly'.

Psycho – Stuart Pearce

Le Sulk  Anelka

Calamity James – David James

best story:

Roy Keane on the time he thought about signing Robbie Savage always amuses.
“I rang Mark Hughes. Robbie [Savage] wasn’t in the Blackburn team and I asked Mark if we could try to arrange a deal. Sparky said: ‘Yeah, yeah, he’s lost his way here but he could still do a job for you.’ Robbie’s legs were going a bit but I thought he might come up to us [at Sunderland], with his long hair, and give us a lift – the way Yorkie [Dwight Yorke] had, a big personality in the dressing room. Sparky gave me permission to give him a call. So I got Robbie’s mobile number and rang him. It went to his voicemail: ‘Hi, it’s Robbie – whazzup!’ like the Budweiser ad. I never called him back. I thought: ‘I can’t be **** signing that.’”

There can be nothing funny about the mighty and glorious Northampton Town..best I heard was someone screaming "Rubbish and Dustbins" about Rushden and Diamonds (when they existed)
