Simple, as I keep saying 4-1-2-1-2 until January.
Midfield - McWilliams or Poole then Grimes and McGugan then Crooks.
JJOT will take the place or one of those when fit.
Stop this winger lark until we actually have some!
You still need width though, in any game, regardless of having the players or not. With that you'd require an awful lot of work from Maloney and Buchanan, and I'm not convinced either has the legs anymore.
I would go Grimes, Poole, McWilliams. Haven't seen Poole play enough to cast judgement on him, but we definitely lack any bite in midfield which he could potentially offer. Otherwise, I'd sub in McGugan/O'Toole for Poole and hope McWilliams can do the dirty work alone.
For a front three I'd use Long central with Bowditch and Powell supporting.
As unbalanced as the squad actually is, there's still enough options to make a reasonably cohesive side. What concerns me most is from game to game, there's no real logic or gameplan to how we've set up. The gap between the lone striker and everyone else is colossal, so Grimes ends up playing these constant hollywood passes into space that no-one can realistically do anything with.
