Why does Jimmy,
pull everyone back for corners,
not mark the opposition when they have a throw,
play the midfield so deep?

These are some of the questions I hear at Sixfields on matchday. But on Tuesday everyone will have the chance to ask the man himself when he attends the Trust Open Forum, in Carrs Bar at 8.00

The Trust AGM will take place at 7.30 with the Open Forum following at 8.00. This evening is open to all fans and entry is free.

PS. If anyone wants to return their Trust New Years Raffle stubbs and cash they can do so on Tuesday, saving on postage.

Because he is the manager and he will live or die by his decisions.

I'd stick with JFH even if he takes us down. Can't keep getting rid of managers.

I think there are certain situations that could unfold this year which would make me want him to get sacked, for instance if we stranded at the bottom or go on a long 10 game losing streak. But it would have to be exceptionally dire as I think a new manager every 6 months reflects poorly on us, and managers and teams go through peaks and troughs and we're never going to see those peaks if we fire them straight away every-time they're in a bad run.

Also, we can't seem to deliver a decent corner , why not try a short corner routine or two , same with free kicks where a shot isn't on?

I believe we should be working on set pieces a lot more than we clearly do.

We have decent height in the team and with McGuigan and Grimes on his day, we should be able to create more quality than we currently do.

This tippy tappy football is great but we just dont have the end result so why not go long flood the box and work on set plays more its not rocket science.

Being likeable should be irrelevant. I'd say the length of his  tenure should be based on whether he learns to adapt ' change things when plan A/B/C or whatever, isn't working. I always felt that was one of Atkins biggest faults...he refused point blank to try something different.

"Tippy Tappy Football" is great at Premier League level where players of that quality can knock it around for 20-30 passes with ease. When League 1/2 players do it they invariably manage 8/10 passes before finding themselves in trouble and either losing the ball or hoofing it aimlessly upfield to our non-existent forward line.

Lets face it...our tactics, possession football, lack of goals and league position prove that its not working. It is time for plan B.....have we got one?

pull everyone back for corners,

It's generally considered the best way to defend corners and ironically can be a more attacking tactic. Statistics show that the more players in the box the harder it is to score which is why they like to pack the penalty area when defending corners. It also sucks up the opponents defenders giving more space for a potential breakaway. You would be more likely to leave a player up the pitch if you want him to hold up play if it gets to him. There's very little likelihood of him actually scoring a goal on his own.

Interesting point about dead ball/set piece training because I think we could improve a lot. I rate Grimes very highly on the ball in midfield (in fact at time a clear class above) but I have to say his corner and free kick deliveries are decidedly poor.

I can't find the research, but I've read before about bringing all players back for corners. Analysis and statistics show this the best method of defending a corner, hence why almost every Premier League side defend this way. From memory, the chances of scoring from a counter attack are so minimal and heavily outweighed by conceding from the corner, you're better off packing your box with bodies.

Midfield is playing deep because we're being overrun most games. I personally blame this on having now outlet in the wide positions/a striker who can hold up the ball bringing midfielders into play.

I'm sure I've read the opposite to be honest. Despite fan's reaction for every opportunity, corners have a very low conversion %.

From my mind it makes more sense to leave shorter players further up the pitch. They offer little protection from a corner in the box, and by doing so you force the opposition to leave players (usually defenders) back.

My mind also says that. Push three players up, they'd have to keep four back. But there's a reason every Prem side do it, and they invest heavily in their research. All us paupers can do is copy it.

It's incredulous that there are people actually criticising possession football and advocating hoofball.  Have you forgotten already the truly dire tripe we were subjected to under Page & JED?

Please Jimmy, never abandon your beliefs and resort to that...

Quite right - There are a few adverse comments on here so I hope that they who have made them come to the meeting and tell JHF how it is.

But do the statistics take into consideration when the ball comes back in for the second time, because unless the keeper catches the corner, you are giving the ball to the opposition. The keeper obviously has less chance of catching the corner when there are 20 players in the area, if we put the three smallest players up, the opposition would have to pull 4 back, there would only be 14 players in the box and the keeper would have a much better chance of claiming the ball.
