It seems to be time to start this thread. Some names already have been mentioned on the recruitment thread.
Come on then guys and gals, get them rolling in. Could be a busy January coming up with probably a few ins and outs.

I heard a rumour that a winger was coming in.
It must not be a rumour it must be a FACT! (left winger) and two pacey strikers joining minimum.

I'm quite intrigued to see how many we manage to ship out as well. Always prefer a smaller squad... must be a nightmare on the training ground. Think we have enough players for 3 teams to enter an 11 aside tournament.

I’m new to this Hotel End lark. Therefore just to get the ground rules clear when exactly does a rumour stop becoming a rumour and become fact? For example, if it’s when the player puts pen to paper I think the thread might lose some element of revelation?

1. Look at the squad, identify where we need a player. 2. Look at managers previous signings. 3. Identify player, and claim to be in the know. I think that's the rules?

I expect a few untried prem youth team players on six month loans and a couple of championship free transfers who aren’t getting in the first team. I don’t expect money to be spent on two top quality strikers. Spending proper money on final third recruitment has never been the cobblers way.
Let the turd 💩 polishing begin

I reckon they'll spend a fair bit, for once.

Will it be under promise and over deliver, or over deliver and under perform? The fan base may be a little scarred from the ‘marquee’ signings pre-season. Hopefully enough to prolong our stay in the third tier for another year.

Seems to have been over promising and under delivering for a season and a half. Let's hope Jimmy has got a few ideas and irons already in the fire.

Define "proper money" in an amount?

Looks like some freshening up will be done. JFH has confirmed this tonight. He also wants a more compact, together squad, so players will be leaving.
Also, confirmed Leon Lobjoit has been sent back by Nuneaton and is back training with the club.

A proven quality striker in today’s market would be in the region of £200k plus as illustrated by James Collins at Luton in league two. As illustrated by muddy waters (0 goals this season) 50k doesn’t buy a proven league one striker. So to answer the question I’d say a bare minimum of £300,000 to try to get in two strikers who can actually score at this level, though to be fair the jan market is always tricky so maybe £400k will be needed. Creativity may come cheaper but not much a decent winger will be a minimum of £150k and we could do with two creative players. So if we actually want to compete at league one level I’d say £700k needs to be spent. We can of course not spend and rely on our plethora of strikers who are not good enough for this division. We unfortunately won’t be recouping much if any money from player sales as who has any sell on value amongst those who will be surplus to requirements. £700k to be competitive with the likes of mk dons, oxford, posh or even Luton in league two. They’ve signed Collins for £250,000 Luke berry £250,000..... That’s in league two!! That’s the going price for decent players if you wish to improve Especially true in the case of forwards as we are finding to our cost Collins or waters??

Not sure what freebies are banding around but £400k on a purchase is £8k a week in wages. Appreciate that Jan isn’t the best window for freebies but people do get wrapped up in transfer fees. A player costing £400k is going to cost £600-700k over a season. I think we’d need to ship a few out to do any deals at that level. It’ll be an interesting window.

You'd expect a £400k signing to be on at least £4k a week in wages as well. That £400k signing could be 2x first team wingers on £6k a week....

JFH confirmed players will be released in January last night . Interesting to see who will go and who will want to leave . You would think the likely candidates might be Revell , Kasim , Lobjoit , Hanley , Smith
