I know nothing about the Mcgugan situation, however if he's not transitioning elsewhere/demanding a big wage or his positions being filled, then we've paid him to get fit.
Was that not always going to be the case?

I have just spoken to an ex cobblers players who rates Hildberto and says he will be good for us and hopefully chip in with a fews goals. Although he did say he was a bit crazy!

I think the McGugan situation is a pretty clear cut one really. The squad is completely unbalanced both in terms of positions and in terms of type of player we have.
McGugan was out of contract and therefore easy to move on so it makes sense to let him go and free up the budget for other areas. To be honest I'd consider sending Grimes back to Swansea for similar reasons. Surely 3 of O'Toole, Crooks, Foley and McWilliams should be good enough for this League, Hoskins could even play behind the striker if we needed. Free up more budget and another loan spot.

Exactly. Fans predict he won't be fit enough for the majority of his stay and then starts to show glimpses of his ability towards the end. I agree that in our current situation, less is probably more.

I would have already sent Grimes back to be honest!

Would be happy for him if it was on loan and he could play upfront. Don't think we have given him much of an opportunity to shine.

Some people have no clue about what makes a good player .Grimes didn’t have a good game on Saturday but he is a quality player . He wants the ball and uses it well ,generally . Grimes is a league above the likes of Foley or Hoskins who are average at best in this division . Stop criticising the bloke and let him play

No striker?
I don't think a new striker is as important as the 4 positions I mentioned. A new striker would also be great, but I think my list is attainable in this short window. The winger has now been signed, three more positions to go!

Yup. Now we have an outlet out wide, watch him shine. Hopefully a fit Powell on the left and Pereira on the right should be good (bring greedy I'd love a new left winger...)

Grimes in a winning team where 2 or 3 can cover and do his dirty work would be fine. We simply cannot afford that we need players that will roll their sleeves up and get dirty. We can't carry passengers I would therefore send him back too.

Why compare Grimes to two players who are not directly comparable? One is a central midfielder that's been deployed out wide, and the other isn't a central midfielder at all and who has hardly played, but when he has it's been up front or on the wing. The question should be, is he a league above the likes of JJOT, Crooks, McWilliams and Poole? I'm not convinced Grimes is a starter in my XI, although I might have him above Poole in my pecking order.

I think the biggest problem for Grimes is JFH playing as a holding midfielder when we have McWilliams and Foley or JJ to play there. It would then release Matt to play further forward to create chances with his obvious skill level.

So, 1 in on loan and 2 who were on short term contracts out. Not a prayer to avoid the drop without a proven striker being signed. It is clear that we missed out on Hanson. No sign yet of the Chinese having any dosh other than what they paid to our leader, KT. But early days and in KT we trust?

This is exactly my view on Grimes. I think he’s a good player but he is not effective enough deep, he is simply recycling possession all the time with nice safe passes. He needs to be on the ball further up the pitch, currently it’s all very nice and easy on the eye but he’s hurting no one with the ball in our half. All that added to the fact he is providing little protection to the back 4 and it’s all looking a bit “Matt Taylor”, little wonder our defensive record was so poor in 2017
