I have read this link above and it is not all bad on Mr Facey. Some arguing on his merits. Can somebody please explain why we have signed(apparently) a 21yr old full back who is small and on the light side. Not sure if he is ideal for a relegation battle. Come in Frank Facey can play at centre back as well as right back and apparently spent most of his time at NYC playing in the former position. According to Wiki he's just under 5'11", so while not particularly tall for a centre back he's not particularly short for a defender either. Given that JFH brought in McGivern, I'd say that centre-back is a position he's still trying to improve. Also, Philips is still injured so if Maloney was to get crocked McWilliams would be the only decent option left to play in that position. Perhaps JFH feels that McWilliams will be best used in midfield and so wants cover for right back at the very least. Perhaps this will spell the end of Poole's loan deal?

Wisdom of buying him is questionable, but certainly us being skint isn't true. Would be on massive wages at City and the Dutch team he was playing for in the season were speculating that it would take a million to make the loan permanent.
Facey’s Contract at City was £1700 a week. Not sure what deal we’ve put together for him but suspect it’s a bit less with normal incentives/bonuses built in.

Frederick Ingram "Fanny" Walden (1 March 1888 – 3 May 1949) was an English professional footballer who played on the right-wing for Northampton Town, Tottenham Hotspur and at international level for England during the 1910s and 1920s.

What is this thing of assuming players won't cope with the physicality of a relegation battle?
It's a game of football against the same players we would be playing whatever our league position.
Are people really suggesting that we need big lumps if in 20th-24th but lighter players are fine the further up the league we go!
Stop trying to use football sound bites and use your heads, it will be far more about mental strength than physical attribute.

His description sounds too similar to Hanley for me. Small and lightweight, similar ages, both with premiership sides, and both played age group football for England. Doesn't sound like the type of player we are going to need over the next four months. Hope I'm wrong.
Wow. You could probably use descriptive words to highlight the similarities between Billy Waters and Lionel Messi but it wouldn't do us any good would it?

Not necessarily physicality that's important during relegation, but experience definitely is, hence people hoping we were signing Hanson.

Yes , and he’s nowhere near physical enough in my view .

More to the point was Lodgie at Oldham, Donny and Pompey were in each game Buchs was easily brushed off the ball. It was pretty disconcerting. If we have to deal with physical brutes we will need a few ourselves. Past good Northampton sides always had a few!

It’s only our second signing and significantly he is a defender as is Berto who apparently can play both RW and FB. If JFH is sorting out the defence first all well and good. Our goal difference demands that!

I genuinely can't remember one "physical brute" we have had at full back?

Whilst maybe not a brute John Johnson liked to fly into challenges.

Sounds similar to Berahino too. And Kyle Walker.

Only an idiot would highlight similarities between Waters and Messi and then use that as an analogy in describing the possibility of likenesses between Facey and Hanley. If Facey had returned from MLS and got 50-70 appearances under his belt in an appropriate league rather than eight in over two years with his 23rd birthday arriving next week (according to wiki) I personally would be more confident. As it is and without seeing him, he and his career appears to more closely resemble Hanleyxand his than I would want if I were selecting someone who was going to represent Northampton Town regularly over the next couple of seasons. I'm not righting him off, I'm waiting and hoping to be proved wrong.

And I bet people didn't want him because he was an inexperienced, unphysical kid from a prem club with a couple league appearances and not upto whatever division we were in at the time.
