Wes Thomas definitely doesn't fit the mould of player we are signing these days.

Let's be honest conor chaplin has been on the fringes of the pompey team for about 4 years now!
If the boy has any ambition about playing regular football (which in my opinion he needs to see his development continue) then maybe we can offer that?
20 years old and played in 18 games this season, over 100 in his career. I don't think Pompey would sell him for anything as low as we could offer, or that he'd leave to join a team struggling in L1. All my opinion and I'll glady take some humble pie if there is any truth in this and it would be a quality signing and would also fit our current transfer policy of buying young players with potential.

Anyone know what his contract situation is like that may play a part?
Also one or two rumours of a min fee realese clause in his contract.
All speculation I would guess and I would be extremly pleasantly suprised if we got him.
I could understand why he might want to leave tho, of those 18 games how many starts? Not tgat many I would guess.

Oops. A good point, well made.
Let me try again. I would probably prefer Buchs to Smith, although one is clearly younger and a lot cheaper. However, I would still definitely rather have Maloney than Phillips. I wouldn't want Maloney to be playing for the opposition, but I couldn't care less if we lined up against Phillips, in fact I'd relish the opportunity.
Completely with you on that. Phillips and Hoskins was my absolute dreaded right flank last season!

In 3 and a half years at Pompey his only had 27 starts.

We must be close to a club record for consecutive games played with a debutant in the starting lineup?

Long on a permanent deal.
one more striker on loan.
couple to go out the door - not as many as we would want though.
done.

I was told by a very reliable source that Long is on £12,000 a week at Burnley. I don't think his future lies with us, especially now he's popping a few in

We're unlikely to loan a striker unless one of the current loanees (could only really be Poole) is going back.

If Long signs permanently then that's frees up a loan position.

I dont think your source is very reliable. £12k a week for a hot prospect. I doubt that very much. Football Manager 2018 has him on £4k a week - I know its a game, but it is now being used by clubs to scout players

Wow, if true this is astronomical for a player of his age, experience and ability.

I think Long's Burnley contract expires in July '18. Can't see him getting in their first team anytime soon, especially as they look set to stay in the Prem for another season at least. They've paid over £1m for him so I'm sure they'd be happy to recoup, say, 10-20% of that now rather than let him leave for nothing in the summer. Or they offer him a new contract and he joins a Championship club on loan next season.

I think it is around £4k a week on FIFA 18 too, these games are pretty reliable. Although at the start of the season they had Kasim as our highest rated player!

I wouldn't pass it on for one minute if I didn't think it was correct. Trust me, it's real life not a game
