On a similar note to Long , I wonder if we will try to sign Grimes .
I think division 1 is his standard but once again , wages might be a real issue .
Both Long and Grimes are players we could build around.

It would certainly show the intent of the club if we could afford to buy these players.

JFH mentioned in that long piece about Grimes, stating we were lucky to have him. Depends if he wants to play football or not. Seems like a smart guy.

Unlikely or not, and suitable or not if the current board have serious ambition they have to fund a striker with a goal scoring record at this level. If the player doesn’t want to come for whatever reason then that’s another thing but they need to be in the market. Wouldn’t be totally popular but Billy Sharp has been on the bench at Sheff United and I don’t think Wilder will take him to the Prem and turns 32 next week? If we were spending serious money that’s where I’d put it.
Do you remember his goal celebration in front of the west stand when Sc***horpe equalised? Not sure he's too fond our supporters... shame he got sent off, then Bradley Johnson scored the winner in stoppage time! One of the great games at Sixfields.

I don't recall Billy Sharp being sent off. I believe Bradley Johnson was sent off for celebrating in the face of Billy Sharp after scoring a very late winner?

I thought it was Sharp but you may well be right... apologies. Either way we didn't appreciate his celebration

Sharp has always been a fiesty sort. He's not the kind who can play 1 up top though so I don't think he's a JFH sort.

I remember the game, never seen anyone disappear from a pitch and down a tunnel as fast as he did that day!!

Still a great player though

I'd also suggest we ain't gonna pay money for a 32yr old with no real resale value.

I know we have some cash apparently but buy Grimes  Long and bring in Billy Sharp is a bit over the top. Certainly our bi polar fanbase would love it, December "were awful going down" January "lets bring in (player out of our range pay scale) and we'll be fine "

I consider his injury time winner at Nene Park as the lowest ever point of me watching a Cobblers game. I live in Rushden, I was absolutely and utterly devastated!  Grin

Not quicker or stronger than Long so not sure why we would do this?

He will be I'm sure. If we were looking at buying a striker and that isn't possible for whatever reason then we could in theory use some of that money to put towards wages for a loanee..

Is ALF actually any good anymore? I'm not saying he isn't I've genuinely not seen him recently.

Personally speaking, if we are going to spend serious cash, I'd want it in a Shay Facey type way rather than an ALF loan way. "Permanent" with potential.

probably not, but the point was if you have real ambition and cash that is the pedigree of striker you would bring in? 59 goals in 110 games during this stint with SU is no g@mble. Most of the proposed strikers I’ve seen suggested on here seem to be? I think the striker we sign or try to sign will be a pretty good barometer indicating both the true ambition and financial clout of the club.
