He was signed for £400k in the summer, so can't imagine this would have been a cheap deal to get him to Northampton - we're obviously not scared of spending.

Interesting that we are supposedly targeting another CB, we seem pretty covered there to be honest! I wouldnt be against us trying 3 at the back now that we have the wing backs for it though.

I guess Poole would be sent back leaving us with 5 loan players which is the max we can have in a matchday squad.

if you go to 3 at the back with wing backs, what are you doing with the wingers we have just brought in?

we may covered at centre back now, but Poole and probably Barnett will be gone come may. so its just forward/ long term thinking.

Hopefully means the end of Leon Barnett's time at NTFC.

JFH is clearly building his squad for 18/19. Wed need 4 centre backs of quality, on paper we've current got 3 that are contracted for next season (Turnbull, Taylor, Pierre). I believe Barnett is out of contract come the Summer?

I suspect he will run with Phillips as a back up to Facey and Smith as a back up for Bunney. Goal keeper wise, it wouldn't surprise me if Cornell is retained if he can ship out Coddington.

Interestingly, 9 of the starting line up that faced MK are under contract next season. The other 2 were loanees (Grimes and Long).

None of this windows signings have been short term trouble fixes, which I fully expected to be the priority this window. Clearly the budget is enabling us to do our Christmas shopping in October instead of Christmas Eve like every other year!

The only short term signing *might have to be in the out and out striker position. I guess we are trying to buy a quality forward or two and have a back up Plan B in place for a loanee until the end of the season if we can't get the deal/s done in time.

Agree.

Someone mentioned Le Fondre on here the other day, I saw somewhere that bids from two league 1 clubs had been rejected who went in for him - perhaps we were one of the two.

I really hope we can put the Cherry on the cake and add a Striker who will excite the fans, it's the last piece of the puzzle and will wrap up a successful window in my eyes.

Looking at his career history (and the bigger budgets in League One), I'd fully expect him to stay up in the north west.

I haven’t seen any rumours whatsoever about possible players going out ! Surprise surprise no one is banging the door down for the likes of Kasim and Bowditch !
If it wasn’t for the new money , I dread to think where we would be now . Bottom would be a good guess though .

Both should never have been given 2 year contracts by JED, same goes for Barnett.

As a rule , we have offered far too many older players contracts that are a year longer than they should be .
JED really let himself down with his player selection , opting for far too many immobile players .
To have Bowditch , Kasim , Barnett , Taylor , Rico and Revell all in the same team was never going to work .
It’s not a veterans league !
