No FA Cup or League action for The Cobblers this weekend, so we head south to Portsmouth for the knockout stages of the Checkatrade Trophy. This tie was originally scheduled for next Tuesday (5/12) but has been brought forward as both teams are out of the FA Cup.

JFH has suggested a strong team will feature for this one. Sam Hoskins is fit again. JJOT, Powell and Pierre could be close to fitness, leaving only Aaron Phillips (back in training) and Alex Revell (10 days away) sidelined.

Please note the kick off time is 12.30pm to allow the game to be streamed live.

Absolutely pointless playing a strong XI in this. Give the likes of Smith & Bowditch starts and get our main players rested and fit for the Walsall game.

It’s oldham away before the Walsall game but I take your point, if for example jjot played and suffered a recurrence of his injury it would be brainless.

But would you rather JJOT played and we won? Or he didn't and we lost. And he didn't get injured.

I am quite content for us to lose the Checkatrade game. Quite honestly don't care either way provided nobody gets injured.

Any kind of win would be appreciated; good for team morale after the booing against Bury.

Bit of a dilemma for JFH as JJOT requires games to regain former fitness levels. He does not appear to be quite so effective since returning from his groin op'; so he needs games if only 60 mins here and there.

Id play a strong team, but not anyone if its risk to do so i.e. JJOT   if he is really fully fit id play him for part of the game.

If you are going to bring in players who haven't been starting they need to be ones that have a chance of being the future or nailing down their position.  Bowditch surely isn't one of them.

Smith is. Foley might have an outside chance of being.  As is Leon.

After the FA Cup team put out, I’d expect to see the tea lady up front for this one and Clarence in goal.

Isn't JFH claiming to put out a 'strong team' a kinda oxymoron?  Shocked

How dare you put Bowditch in the team!  Huh?

There's just as much chance of someone getting injured against Oldham as against Portsmouth. As for getting rested, if a week between games is not enough there's something seriously wrong.
If by chance we get there, you'll be passing on a trip to Wembley I expect?

Precisely - in fact you equate Oldham and Pompey too equally. Oldham will give us a very hard time indeed, where as Pompey would like to win but not to die for. They also know there is a penalty shoot out!

Coventry won this last year then got relegated. I like others want to win every game but we are currently in a relegation battle

I don’t really care if we win or lose this game , but I hope we can use the match to settle our formation and attempt to pass the ball more than three consecutive times without going back to the keeper .
I notice both Buchs and Moloney have both insisted we played well on Saturday in the press .
If you tell someone something enough times , they begin to believe it !
We were awful lads and looked like relegation fodder - admit it and move on .
