Yesterday was the best performance I've seen us put in since Oxford away. Disastrous start, and I'd say neither Pierre or Cornell covered themselves in glory, but the response to that setback was great.
Not usually a fan of O'Toole playing a number 10 role, but I thought his physicality and mobility caused Walsall some problems and gave Chris Long some overdue support up top.
Thought Foley had an excellent game in a more wide position, and he could be a short-term answer there until we get the wingers required in January.
Much more positive, but we need to make that a consistent match performance level. It can't come around once every month.

Looked like a ball boy with a false beard.
Seems a reasonable replacement for Holmes; in many ways similar player. Interestingly he has rejected an extension to his contract. Walsall would require a fee for a player they got on a free from Peterborough! Depending on the Clubs involved the fees might be within in our reach. This is made on the basis that only L1 sides would be interested - if Championship Clubs are interested we might as well forget it!

I also agree that this was easily the best performance since Oxford. What was clearly noticeable yesterday and had been sadly lacking in recent games was the willingness of players to close down the opposition and get in their faces a bit more. Undoubtedly this was a more physical side epitomised by the presence of JJ up front. I'm sure JFH started with a 4-4-1-1 with JJOT tasked with linking the midfield with Long but to my eyes he played like a striker and did an excellent job there. Foley provided plenty of hard work on the right side of midfield and McGugan showed good link-up play.
The team still lacks natural width although Moloney did his best to provide it down the right and had one of his better games. As a whole this performance showed plenty of offensive intent but they still look shaky at the back. Pierre looked a liability early one but improved greatly in the second half and had one of his better performances. I still worry how easily Buchanan gets beaten for pace down the flanks and the goalkeeping position still needs sorting, but I don't think Crooks will be missed much if McWilliams is fit and there are plenty of reasons for optimism.

I'm pretty sure it was for dissent - he just wouldn't shut up for some reason.
Not sure, I was close to where he eventually sent him off. The ref seemed to be explaining things to Crooks as they walked, he certainly got involved after the horror tackle but so did others, particularly Ash Taylor. I think the ref wanted to wait a few moments so the Walsall player was down the tunnel and there could be no afters. I don't see how he got singled out though, I think the ref wanted to even things up.

Crooksy has said that it was for going 'head to head' which is correct if committed without excessive force.

I doubt it. I hear Dec has asked the producers to sign him up for the Jungle
Little Erhun Otzumer.

Taylor was closest to the incident, was rightly enraged and shoved Bakayoko but before the ref got close. Crooks did no more than Taylor but ran from much further to get involved and did it under the refs nose, and then continued the verbals.

One thing was clear the players were playing for the club as much as their own future. Clearly January Transfer window reminded them of their own current predicament. It was a team performance all round with everybody putting in a lot of hardwork in a gritty display. For a reasonable account of the game read the Chrons assessment on players etc. The display today could not be more different from that of the Oldham game. Out of the bottom 4 which at least gives hope a lift.

Would agree they all put a shift in and got in the faces of the opposition much more than the last two home games. How much of that is down to the JJ effect, carrying out the managers tactics, and playing for contracts I wouldn't like to say.

I read something on Facebook about a cb from vitesse arnham but thought it was just a rumour - what have you heard? I wouldn’t have said defence was exactly the priority but if we’re looking at quality I’m not going to say no.

Seems strange to me with Christmas just round the corner.... Maybe he didn’t fancy soft drinks and pasta on Christmas Day?

They’ve got a Fankaty Dabo who is a defender on loan from Chelsea - either that or we’re interested in jimmy krankie.

If you do a quick google on Fankaty Dabo you’ll see a quality own goal he scored the other week - he’ll fit right in!

Queer eye for the Cobblers 🌈

As it was only my third game of the season, I can only comment on what I saw. And to be fair that was a typical blood and guts lower league game. Both teams had their bright spots, both had their low points. Pierre deserves huge credit for coming good in the second half. Obviously an horrendous mistake and never won a header first half. But after the break, a different player altogether. Also have to say I like Matt Crooks, many on here indifferent to him, but his height and guile definitely an asset. One thing of note though is despite our recruitment over the summer, our two best players are loanees Grimes - just superb yesterday, range of passing, positional sense... Long - this boy has goals in him, I've no doubt, given the service he will be prolific. Couldn't fault any player on effort so well done the squad and JFH.

Did our second take a deflection, or did their keeper not do very well?

Perhaps he reads these comments? I don’t think Cornell was as bad as a few on here make out? The simple fact is we only conceded one goal which after Oldham is an improvement. Are you actually supporting Cobblers150 comments ?
i dont recommend any player searches online for comments about themselves.
