I wonder what Freddie Woodman’s up to.......
I wonder what "our first million pound player" Dean Snedker is up to? For goal keepers, give me experience over youth every time.

Huh? There's only one famous quote about a Cobblers player being the first £1m player and that was to Christian Lee

There were some on here convinced of his future superstardom after only one game. To me he was never good enough, or big enough to make it. I haven't seen Goff so I'll reserve judgement, but I will take a lot of convincing.

As for the first goal it is a shame the defender is Pierre as he hasn't taken control of many situations this season, I understand Cornell is way off his line, but why not boot it out? If it had been Taylor I don't think Walsall would of scored.

Agree that Pierre could have done better but definitely mostly Cornell's fault. When a defender is running back with half an eye on the striker at his shoulder he is looking to play a ball back to the keeper who should be in his area. When you look up and find your goalkeeper has charged out his area and is  standing only a few yards away, you are caught out and that could have happened to Taylor too. Despite that second's hesitation Cornell still had the chance to clear the ball and didn't. If a goalkeeper comes charging out his area he has to make sure he gets to the ball first. End of. Pierre actually had a good game from then on. Cornell looked very hesitant throughout the match and his late error where he didn't manage to pick up a ball that was hardly moving and that nearly let Walsall in was unbelievable. Haven't seen much of Cornell so hope that game was a one-off.

I'm a tad worried just how far he goes out of his area when kicking from his hands. He has weaknesses that limit him anyway, without adding another easily avoidable one to his list.

He had more pratfalls than a circus clown yesterday and made two dreadful lapses of judgement, one of which led to a goal and the other should have. If Ingram is going to be out for a lengthy period then this is a position we'll need to look at in January. He's adequate as a reserve but should be nowhere near first choice.

What’s a pratfall?

I've looked at it over a number of games, he does release the ball well inside the area.

that was the very least he could do considering it was him that needlessly gave it away

I sit mid West so it's not easy to tell. My concern is that one day a dodgy ref will award a free kick right on the edge of our area. It's not as if there's any great disadvantage to kicking a yard further back.

So what should he have done? Stand off and let the bloke score or just sq it. Either way he saved a goal.

Im a massive critic of Cornell, I've said countless times he shouldn't be here, even as a number2,3 or 454!

BUT. Credit where credits due. I've seen the extended highlights, their guy who rounded him and *should have scored basically didn't because of Cornells excellent play. He did just enough to stop him scoring and he deserves massive credit for that, something that was far from obvious from the North stand yesterday! With regards to the penalty, it looked cast iron from the other side of the ground but having seen the replay Im not so sure now. He forced their striker out wide by going for the ball, the guy was looking for it and duly went down. Penalty awarded, he then makes a dam good save on the basis he actually changed from going right to left after the guy hit it!

I would have played Coddington yesterday, as I would have done last week. Im a great advocator that if a player plays well he keeps his place regardless of whom is coming back from injury. Cornell did VERY well yesterday, if Ingrams fit to start on boxing day he should be made to wait. I see it as playing the long game, giving out the message that if you've got the shirt its yours to keep unless you play badly. I've argued that case many times previous.

I did read a comment on another thread about it being the best goal keeping performance for 20 years. He/she clearly didn't go to the Orient game when Adam Smith had a 'rather decent game'!   Wink

I’ve just invented a new proverb. “Hubris comes before a pratfall” Do you think it will catch on?
