That was a very good performance by us against a very good side .
We competed all over the pitch and went toe to toe with them , even out playing them for periods .
JJOT , McGugan and Foley worked very hard but faded halfway through the second half .
Long caused trouble all afternoon and Moloney was back to his best .
Cornell was superb and did very well to force their man wide when he hit the side netting .
The top boy though was Taylor - what an immense performance from him .
Proud of the team today

I'd agree with that - showed real fight today and could have won and had opportunities to finish it off.  Dack was their best payer by far - without him, they wouldn't be nearly as effective.  They move the ball about really well, but lacked pace I felt.  I was disappointed by Smith - especially second half, where I thought his touch let him down and passing was poor.  I actually thought Hoskins fresh legs and great pace caused problems and thought he could have come on earlier than he did.  I left today more encouraged than I have in a long time - a good performance today.  Happy Christmas all!

Not sure what you know about football Parklands but Cornell was excellent today .
His handling and decision making were good .
I haven’t seen the penalty decision and so can’t comment on that .
It was down to him that their guy hit the side netting .
Lose your prejudice

I agree, I thought his performance was the best I’ve seen from a keeper at Sixfields in about 20 years.

One decent performance, which on another day could gave cost us the points by all accounts, does not make up for a sea of inept performances. The fact is the bloke is not good enough!

People aren't saying it was down to Schmeichel that Lingard hit the post on tv tonight? It was just a shocking miss on both counts. He was too quick to make a decision just like the pen, absolutely no need to take him down there. He made a number of fumbles, and what he did catch was what I would expect from a League One keeper. I don't know how anyone could think that was excellent. It was a good penalty save from an average penalty.
Lose my prejudice? Jesus Christ.

Thought JJ bossed it today, a class above the rest.

Special shout out to Grimes who won plenty of 50/50s, admittedly they were all off the back of him having a woeful first touch. Effort was there though!

No problem, just tell the truth as it nevers and Cornell is not good enough.

Well he could have played Coddington!

Bloody hell, Evers, if you're going to make snidey allusions to the quality of another poster's vocabulary, it's probably best to do so in a comment that isn't littered with grammatical errors.  Roll Eyes

I didn't think their fans were that great; reminiscent of Pompey fans a couple of years back - arrogant and quick to turn on their team when things weren't going all their way.

Anyway, screw them. I thought we were pretty good today and showed a level of grit and determination that has been sadly lacking at times this season. It was pretty even from a performance perspective, which I'll gladly take given our respective league positions. In terms of chances though, we could have won and should have lost so I'm delighted with the point.

I have to say, I'm not sure I get the sudden Cornell love-in. Yes, he did well to save the pen but it was his second rush of blood that conceded it and his first one that drew him out of his goal when the Blackburn player rounded him and shot into the side of the net. On another day, we'd have been punished twice there. Speaking of the penalty, I think Blackburn should feel a little aggrieved that it wasn't retaken as it looked like a good 4 or 5 of our players were in the penalty area before it was struck!

I felt a bit for Smith today. He put in a good shift, working hard harrying well and carrying out his defensive duties superbly. Unfortunately his inexpensive in a more advanced role showed and he made some terrible decisions while in possession of the ball.

Agree with this, especially on Cornell, still looks a disaster waiting to happen.

Cornell did alright but let's not lose sight of the fact that he gave away the penalty rather recklessly. Ingram is our first choice 'keeper and as soon as he is fit he should be selected.

Smith did a good spoiling job in front of Buchanan but even allowing for him being played out of position his passing and decision making were not great. Powell is missed but on his return he needs to produce consistently good performances and not those he delivered in the first part of the season.

The side battled very hard to earn a point and although luck was perhaps on our side in the last 15 minutes when we visibly tired the draw was good for morale with both players and supporters.

A win at Doncaster is needed.

I wouldn’t go as far as the comment that it was the best performance from a keeper in 20 years, but Cornell had a good game yesterday.  It certainly was him that forced their player wide and made the angle more difficult (although it was still a woeful miss).  Naturally, any penalty save is good, but it’s even better when the keeper hangs onto the ball which he did. As to the penalty decision, Cornell insisted afterwards that it was not a penalty - I couldn’t tell from where I was sitting and haven’t seen the highlights, but regardless, his choice to dive when he did was still correct in my opionion.

I think you will find the thread title is “Blackburn Rovers h 2pm “ not “ the career and suitability of David Cornell “

Having seen the highlights - I wonder if those criticising Cornell will pick on McGugan in the same way because his defending for the goal was appalling. Couldn’t be bothered comes to mind .
Cornell looked a little unlucky on the penalty decision - he didn’t quite time it right but their player was looking for it .

Stupid challenge from Cornell,  it was only ever going to end one way if he didn't get the ball. All about decision making. Mcgugan is lazy for tracking back, been critics ed for it at other clubs
