I don't mind losing, IF the players are giving their all and we are being played off the park by a better team then you hold your hands up and say, actaully we did our best but we were beaten by a better team.

The thing that grates me is 3 quarters of that lot out there are not bothered, they are lethagic and disintrested!

Tht is what is simply  NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

Its been apparent for ages that they don't have the desire for it. Theres clearly factions within the squad that are against the management, and that team spirit isn't great. The squad is too big, thats the first point. The 2nd point is that they think they are far better than they are.

After the Bury game (0-0) I heard Grimes being interviewed, claiming that they had played well. I found that very concerning. You've then got Long last week doing the shush thing to the fans after he scored in the Walsall match. You've got Taylor having a go at the fans at Oldham, Buchs getting into arguments after a game with fans in the West stand. They all think they are the dogs bollox, Im telling ya!

They seem to be looking for excuses, looking for distractions to take away the onus being on them. Individually its not a problem, can easily be put down to 'passion'. But its a repeating feature this season, can't remember a season like it to be fair in that regard. They are a real 'touchy bunch'!

Like I say, the numbers need to be brought down to a more manageable level very quickly. Bad eggs need to be moved on. JFH needs to be supported financially to enable him to do the recruitment/sales, but if he doesn't create a much more positive environment from it then we are doomed. Collectively there is a real attitude problem in the squad!

i think thats a fair appraisal, they even looked disinterested in the pre match warm up, the performance was probably worse than the effort at Plymouth. I'm off to Portsmouth, but only because I don't like letting mates down when we've already made the arrangements to go, however, I think this could be my last away trip of the season, just cant justify the time, the money or the heartache anymore.

Exactly what we were talking about on our way home yesterday. I wasn't aware of the Taylor one but the Buchs one was a 'clever' bit of marketing by him to take away all criticism aimed at him. How a fancy dan plying his trade in league one and not exactly banging goals in for fun can have the audacity to shhhh his 'home' fans is beyond me. Not sure what to make of the Grimes one, I was hoping at the time JFH had been attempting to build the players up after that game but maybe they all actually believed him and accept that as a good performance. Then you had the criticism about the few people that booed by JFH so touchy is probably the best description.

I really wouldn't be upset to see pretty much all the players leave in January (obviously there are exceptions)which is the difference between now and the early 90s s*** we endured, despite our lack of quality and some embarrassing thrashings I still liked a fair few of the players.

I don’t know why Jimmy got so upset by a few boos and had to make such a big thing of it.....it’s unlikely he didn’t face criticism at QPR at some point!!

Whether we like it or not it’s part and parcel of the game. What was heard yesterday was way more toxic than a few boos. Are fans fickle? Should they expect more??

I watched the Arsenal v Liverpool game last week.....Arsenal were booed off at half time when 0-1 down, and when Liverpool scored again the noise was even louder. Then Arsenal scored three in 5 minutes and suddenly the fans were singing the ‘by far the greatest team the world has ever seen’ song!!!

Some of you's lot have short memories! Its a cycle thing boys and girls.

I don't recall going to Leeds, seeing us lose 3-0 and then drop into league2 being 'fun'. Or indeed, anymore 'fun' than it is these days. The 0-0 opening match the following season (Macclesfield I believe) was the door opener to several seasons of absolute drivel.

I also don't recall having much 'fun' in the early 90's, seeing us lose to the likes of Crawley and Bromsgrove in the Cup. Home crowds those days were sparse, the football absolute dross. A bit like now really!

The thing is. When your in the relegation zone, generally performing very badly, its then you've got to choose your games carefully.I never intended on ruining my boxing day trudging up the A1 to witness what was most likely going to be a capitulation. Same as going down to Pompey…a defeat (heavy) is the likely outcome.

We are 24 league games in, 30 odd games if you count the cup matches. Its clear as day what the issues are, generally speaking they cannot be mended (or at least bodged up) until January 1st onwards. Those issues were totally apparent after 10 games, shortly after JFH's honeymoon period.

Id already assumed that we'd be 5-7 points adrift of safety by the time we've played Wigan. IF JFH had played the same team as he did on Saturday (yesterday) we'd have probably got beaten because Poole is not up to it as a centre back. Plus the team/squad just isn't fit enough, look how knackered they were in the last 15 minutes against Blackburn! I was *hoping for a point until I saw his team selection. It will be the same at Pomey…if he goes for a more balanced line up, we *might drag out a result but its unlikely. Wigan, forget it!!

My advice to my fellow Cobblers is accept it for what it is and live in eternal hope that we make a number of changes in the first week in January which *could totally change the dynamics of the team. A blend of realism and blind optimism!  Grin

As I said in the thread I started some time back, I am bored. I don't attribute it to any short term memory issues as you do. Quite the contrary. I attribute it to an all too familiar pattern over the years, not far off half a century in my case. You'd have to be an idiot to ignore the cyclic nature of these things. But you'd have to be an even bigger idiot to offer that as some form of solace.

My problem isn't that I don't understand the situation. It's the fact that I know it far too well, and know that worse is on the horizon. When I was fuelled by optimism surrounding all things Cobblers it was easy. Now I have been exposed to how little there is to be optimistic about, I'm just not bothered. For quite some time I have attended out of a mixture of sense of duty and mostly habit. I enjoyed the Blackburn game. But I would have enjoyed a game like that no matter who was playing.

I don't feel like any less of a supporter. In fact, subjecting it to any level of serious scrutiny, I feel like I am the enlightened one.  Grin

So it's obvious then that a "team" will not change the status quo for more than a one off magical season every 30 years or so. Maybe it is the surroundings? Firstly the totally inadequate CG and now the also inadequate but also dull and uninspiring Shitefields that have blighted us for so long? Discuss Shocked

On a broader point as someone who has lived out of the UK for nearly 20 years now I find the whole bloody country dull! Going to old, decrepit but atmospheric grounds in the 80's was always a laugh whatever the standard of football. The constant sanitising, sit down, shut up, the political correctness, mind your language approach to everything in Blighty nowadays has sucked the fun out. I'm not saying you have to be a cunt but there's a sensible line to be drawn.

I always look forward to returning but within moments realise the country I remember so fondly I now see purely through claret tinted spectacles, it's changed beyond recognition and I can't wait to leave again.

It's not just the Cobblers the whole fucking country is a pile of boring shite now. If you want fun, leave!

I was thinking that sat in another modern uninspiring bowl ground in Doncaster. It's a nice ground, it has good facilities and if it was ours instead of Sixfields I'm pretty sure alot of people would be happy but it's oh so dull.

Everything is so sanitised now so when the football is as awful as it is at the minute there aren't any 'distractions' to help ease the pain / boredom.

I can't comment on the whole country. I still see a lot of good and enjoy virtually every other aspect of my social and work life. I see our fan base getting excited about potentially employing an overweight Portuguese clown and realise what we have been reduced to. I always said that I can see why the lack of activity surrounding the redevelopment frustrates some of our support. But I can see why that has stalled so much. What I find most difficult is an almost indifference from the club about what is served up on the pitch. I don't give a damn about the internal politics of the club. The deal with the Chinese is nothing to do with me. What I pay for is a competitive team that provides a consistent amount of entertainment to keep my interest piqued. In no way is it ok to assume that I will keep coming up with money year in year out to watch the dross we are served up currently.

As i have said all along. January is the key time for the club to signal its intent. I'm not interested in ill disciplined show ponies, who might raised a glimmer of hope with the odd maverick move. I want to see the board signing players that will get us out of this mire, and show their level of desire to the SUPPORTERS of the club.

Fratton Park on Saturday, a ground that is far from being a dull and sanitised stadium.
That'll do for me, I'm going to enjoy myself regardless of the football...

I think it is accurate to comment that since the departure of Wilder the performances served up at Sixfields under 3 different managers with the odd exception have been consistently dull. But it is even worse on our travels. Our away record is atrocious.  It comes to something when 2 former players, Martin Smith at Oldham and Chris Freestone at Doncaster, both say that a number of players are going through the motions i.e. not trying.  As ex-professional footballers they did not say these things lightly.  This is a disgraceful state of affairs and something has to be wrong for such a state of affairs to exist.  The players responsible need to be moved on, easier said than done I appreciate.

I am sure that JFH will be here for a while yet if only for financial reasons and the fact that KT will be very reluctant to admit that he has made a third poor managerial appointment in his 2 years at the club.  Nothing I have seen from JFH gives me any confidence but he isn't going anywhere and who in their right mind would want to come here other than the usual been everywhere else group of managers from the lower leagues.

It is easy to point the finger at the manager whoever he may be. That goes with the territory.  But the manager alone is not solely responsible.  The Chairman and owners must bear their share of responsibility.  On the playing side it was obvious that Rico needed replacing 2 seasons ago but there has been an abject failure to do so.  When a player age 33 suffers not one but 2 achilles injuries you don't have to be a rocket scientist to know the player's time is up.  So the club gives him a new contract.  Madness.  My hope when Graham Carr returned to the club as an "associate director" was that with his fine eye for a good player and his extensive contacts in the game a better quality of player would come to the club.  It remains unclear what if anything is Carr's role.

Lack of clarity is becoming a hallmark of Kelvin Thomas's period of ownership.  The lack of any progress on the redevelopment is alarming and dispiriting. There may be reasons but it may be that Thomas, having made his money from the sale of shares in NTFC Ventures, has lost interest, is reluctant to commit to the redevelopment and is stalling.  The actual owners, 5USport, are silent. Not a word has been heard from them on their plans since the take-over 6 months ago.  It has all been controlled by Thomas.  If this isn't sending out alarm bells then I don't know what will.

One thing that is absolutely without question is that our surroundings influence us and our behavior. Football used to be a lads, dad's and sons escape, plus a few women who weren't so easily offended shall we say. Sadly everywhere now has to be family friendly, for good or for bad that's for individuals to decide.
Pubs are the same too now, no more bullseye glass windows and the mystery inside, no more man caves, no more smoking, you've more chance to find a plastic playpen for unimaginative parents who ought not to have children in the first place.
It's like painting, you try to introduce too many colours and it will turn out a brown mess and sadly that's how I feel about my home country, trying to please too many at the same time. It becomes more focused when your away for years at a time.
I hope Tel is right and some injection of cash or inspiration is coming in the January sales for everyone who still goes regularly, if not sell up and move to South East Asia.  Wink

I was discussing the atmosphere amongst our fans as we left the Donny game, and I mean the general feeling around the fans not necessarily at games.

I fear that apathy will have a lot settle for relegation without a whimper. I truly believe that there has been several occasions over the year where the backs to the wall/ seige mentality of the fans has helped to keep us in the football league. I know its sounds silly but I remember games where we were desperate and it seemed like the North stand was willing the ball into the net.

If things continue to go bad then the team are going to need every bit of support they can , but are we up for it this year ?

Its like the whole stadium, debacle has knocked the stuffing out of the fan base.

If you look back a couple of seasons and consider that we won 29 of our 46 games in League 2, scoring 82 goals and conceding 46, what has come since is nowhere near the same level.

For our 1 and a half seasons in League 1 we have now played 70 games and won 20, with 34 defeats and 16 draws. We have scored 79 in those 70 games but conceded 115.

Away from home we have won just 7 of our 35 games, losing 19, scoring 34 and conceding 67.

We have only won 13 from 35 at home too, with 45 scored, but only 9 this season.

Its probably fair to say that a great many of the fairweather fans we picked up along the way to the title just a couple of years ago would have now fallen by the wayside.

It certainly isn't much "fun" at the moment!!

Watching The Cobblers has only really been fun in 1986/87, 1987/88, 1996/97, 1997/98, 2015/16.

The rest of the time its generally been s*** with s*** managers coming and going.

Of the last seven managers;

Ian Sampson - Out of his depth
Gary Johnson - Hopeless
Aidy Boothroyd - Hopeless
Chris Wilder - Unbelievable
Rob Page - Hopeless
Justin Edinburgh - Hopeless
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink - Jury's out

Other than Wilder, the football under these men has been at best turgid.

At this level it's all about the day out, a few beers and if we win it's a bonus. But is that now unacceptable at £22-£24 per ticket?

Our owners inability to  show what they have got lined up for our club other than a cryptic clue about it being 'finished off'
Refering only to a little shell of a stand that only really needs fitting out as it has the structure in place that could and should have been  easily completed last summer to a reasonable state,   so any talk of it costing a whopping £4,000,000 has came out of the Diane Abbott book of costings and should be refuted.
Currently as fans  we have nothing to be excited for and I doubt we have ever felt so distant from our own football  club.
When we ask for updates into our clubs redevelopment we constantly  hear of Thomas/consortium/chinese/60%/venture
NBC/land/leases/ excuses/delays/belittling /boring/nonsense/
And at no time any solid commitments to building  better infrastructure giving us fans hope of a more successful future and most importantly, feeling part of it..
It now looks like The current lot are not interested in steady sustainable growth that involves and interests the whole town and county but believe  going it alone is best policy, down the cheap tried and tested route of  doing nothing to Sixfields in hope to buck the trend and be uber successful in a little shack of a ground, despite this path being littered with many previous  failures. Hopefully they are now realising seeing  4 managers in 4 years that present day Sixfields  can only cater for a struggling league 2 team at best and its an embarrassing  turn off to our town folk who wont spend £24 for the pleasure, so  unless they start realising their mistake, the alternative is keep  shovelling money at it until in my oppinion, NBC hands them the thing they really want and then ditch the annoying football club.
I hope nbc give them fcuk all.

Agree with Drilling, not sure if following the Cobblers is (or should be described as) fun! Depends how long you've followed them. I doubt anyone who was there in the early eighties watching with crowds hovering around the 1000 mark, or the nineties with McRitchie and losing to Bromsgrove Rovers would describe the times as 'fun'!

Only 500 to Donny! In the eighties it would literally be a handful away until 87!

Sixfields itself stopped being 'fun' with the closure of Washington Square!

Pompey on Sat anyone?  Wink
