Would have thought that another wide player, Central defender (sell  Pierre), Keep Revell, but buy better! Pay Rico off? Perhaps replacement  for Grimes?

You're advocating that we lose Pierre and Grimes but keep hold of Revell, who up until yesterday hadn't scored in 12 league appearances?

Pierre may not have had the best start to his town career but you can see from his raw attributes that there is a quality centre back in there, much like how you could with Rod McDonald. To not rate Grimes because of a few sub-par performances is short-sighted as clearly he's the best technical midfielder we've had in many years - against Oxford he was absolutely taking the piss out of the opposition. No doubt you'd replace him with a 'tough-tackling' midfielder a la Jason Taylor.

Good thing you're not a football scout eh?  Roll Eyes

Like wise and still think that Grimes is not good enough for our cause! Two good games in 20+!

Grimes is probably one of the most talented footballers we've had.

Hasselbaink is a big fan of Pierre aswell based on his interview after the injury.

He would be if he was just a little more consistent!

Think that can be put down to the team as a whole

I find Grimes really frustrating. He can pick a pass of real quality one moment, and the next give the ball away whilst under no pressure at all. Similarly his free kicks can either be devastatingly accurate, or of such poor quality you wouldn't bet on him hitting the skip at half time.

Absolute rubbish .
Grimes has had some off games for us recently but has been a shining light for much of the season .
There’s a reason why he is the only midfield player JFH has constantly picked.
Grimes is getting unfair treatment on here when his counterparts have been below average .
Crooks is nowhere near the player we saw playing for Accrington and I can’t remember Foley doing anything seriously influential in a game . Only JJOT and McWilliams from the midfield have performed as consistently as Grimes .

Grimes is a serious player.

If we can get a ball winning midfielder to do the ugly stuff alongside him, then he will flourish.

Agreed. He never shy's away from the ball. Even when everyone else is disappointing, he's dropping deep and asking for the ball trying to make things tick in the middle of the park.

If we had OPTA stats at this level, you'd see he'd be the player with the most touches/most passes/most possession every single game. If Grimes was our player, and Crooks was the loanee... We'd be issuing the blame towards Crooks in my opinion. Absolutely quality player, and seems like a vastly upgraded League One version of Byrom.

Where on earth did that second half performance come from?

At half time I was feeling as despondent as most of the season then we actually started playing football and should have scored more than we did, I'm hoping it was us being good rather than Southend being poor (although they were crap) which might start to give me some survival hope/

I agree. IMO i'd play Foley in middle with him, Jimmy keeps swapping Foley left/right side midfield. I'd like to see him alongside Grimes, Foley doesn't mind a tackle + he's got a good work ethic. I think by playing him more central, we could get a bit more out of Grimes.

It's a real difficult one to get the make up of the midfield correct, we almost have too many options.

Personally I want to see Crooks kept in the middle as he looks much much better there than when stuck out wide.

Rubbish first half, very decent 2nd half.

I will say though that Southend were RUBBISH with a capital R. Id argue that they were the worst side on the day I've seen us play in the league this season.

So whilst we could and should have scored at least 1 or 2 more goals and that the one we conceded was controversial, its hard to say whether we would have looked half as good if we'd been playing a side on form and with confidence. They didn't even seem to realise that Efan Elad's love child had come on for us, the space they gave him was absolutely ridiculous!

Basing it all on 'you can only beat whats put in front of you' then an excellent day at the office. But Im being a little cautious in my assessment because of the poor opposition. Time will tell when we pitch up at Bradford and the following week against MK.

The two new lads bedded in well and our new winger met my expectations…which were VERY high beforehand. IF we manage to secure another attacking option of such quality, we will stay up comfortably. If we don't I reckon it will be touch and go, but that lad gives us cause for optimism!

Fantastic result!

Berto was a breath of fresh air, Facey is what we need in both full back positions and JJOT displaying all the qualities that we want from our star man.

I feared the worse for Grimes following a poor performance against Wigan and several others. One of his first free kicks hit the first man, it was just a side pass, and the groans and moans were loud. However, what a turn around! Long may it continue in our favour. I still think he is a luxury and I have been surprised that he is one of the few players that has kept his place and the same position in the team.

Because he signed him and none of the others?

If I had a quid for every 10-15 yard pass Grimes needlessly played straight to an opposing player id have a few quid by now…
