To my mind, stats on away followings are the clearest simple indication of how well supported and therefore sustainable a club is in the long term. It shows how much your supporters genuinely support the club and want to be there, even if it is all the way to Carlisle on a cold and wet Tuesday night to lose 5-0. As a true fan once said, yes I know they will get battered, but I still want to be there to see how they got battered, which players are giving their all, and to support them all the way and try cheer them along to a consolation goal.
If your fans can't be ar5ed to travel to Northampton, or Walsall on the back of a few new signings and a new manager, then I don't think that they are genuinely supporters and won't be bothered to do bucket collections in hard times. Plenty of seats and a hotel or not, I'd back an Oldham, Oxford or Bristol R over an MK all day for long term survival.
