Time to drop one of them? If so, who and why? Rochdale completely overan us yesterday and neither of them have a tackle (a legit one) in them.. surely a McWilliams or foley would then give the other one chance to focus on creating a bit more?

Grimes. I've said all along he's been lightweight and mostly ineffective. That said, he's looked better in recent weeks when we've been playing better football so even allowing for yesterday, the pair of them probably warrant another start next week to redeem themselves.

Played well at Bradford, Blackburn and also MK Dons.

Yes, that's what I meant by "in recent weeks".

It’s okay to play those two when we have lots of space but otherwise they are too much of a walkover. It needs McWilliams or JJOT with one of them for balance . Crooks is just not aggressive enough

Although they can both be very good players on their day, they only work well together when JJOT is playing AND on song because he does the dirty work for them and takes two players out of the game to give them time and space.
I'd only drop one of them or take one off if JJOT isn't playing or not firing. It would probably be Crooks, as Grimes' set pieces have been much better in recent weeks, and that's an important part of the game. Even yesterday, when we created virtually nothing, we came close to scoring twice from set pieces.

Leave Crooks out all day long, Grimes and JJOT centre mid.

I fail to see what Crooks brings to the side. He has been a massive let down, a real shame we 'beat' Sc***horpe to his signiature.

Do a vote thingy? Might be interesting as by and large the forum seems split.

When Grimes plays well, Cobblers play well. When he plays badly like yesterday we generally lose. Like him or loathe him he tends to be the focal point in the team, always wanting the ball and trying to create with it.
He needs a couple of battlers around him. The team badly needs players up for fight. Bring back McWilliams, with possibly JJOT back in central midfield where he is done well in the past. Van Veen can takes his place further forward and I'm afraid its time to drop Crooks, who flatters to deceive.

Crooks, said since day 1 the guy is useless and so overrated. Complete waste of money.

spot on tbh, I used to really hate him , now I realise that if you stop grimes You stop us as an attacking force. Any team that doubles up on Grimes ill beat us.

I think that’s over simplistic . JJOT is probably the player that we pivot on more than any other . The point is that other players have to come to the party if Grimes or JJOT are sniffed out . Too often , they just don’t step up but it’s early days with the new guys .

It seems to me that part of the midfield problem is that with JJOT playing a more advanced role there are no ball winners in the middle of the park. Foley is being played out of his natural position and McWilliams warms the bench. The solution could be to drop Crooks to make way for one of these two.

We really need two JJOTs, one to play central midfield where he was so effective under Wilder, and one to play just off the main striker where he can be the focal point of our attacks.

Grimes...Crooks is more of a presence and with the scrap we're in Crooks edges it for me. It is a close run thing though. If we had a five man midfield with a JJOT or McWilliams in there with them I'd happily put them both in.
I get the feeling Grimes would be better if we were comfortable in the top half but for the battle ahead I'm still to be convinced.
