Forgive me if this has been done before, and feel free to send me to the Forum naughty step if it has, but I'm interested to see the wide range of people's best ever Cobblers elevens that would fit into a good match day side (e.g. you might not have Bayo partnering Big John Gayle and Poul Hubertz up front as amazing as that would be to see!)

So your best balanced sides based on your favourite ever Cobblers players. Look forward to seeing the range of elevens from different decades!

I'll kick off with:

Era supporting NTFC: 1992-present day

GK: Andy Woodman

RB: Ian Clarkson
CB: Ian Sampson
CB: Ray Warburton
LB: John Frain

RM: Ricky Holmes
CM: Chris Hargreaves
CM: Sean Parrish
LM: Martin Smith

CF: Bayo Akinfenwa
CF: Neil Grayson

Subs: Mark Bunn, Luke Chambers, Pedj Bojic, John-Joe O'Toole, Eric Sabin, John Gayle, Scott McGleish

Great shouts with Gyepes - he's one that slipped my mind but I can't justify replacing either Sammo or Razor!

I'm having that Fred - my team exactly (and for the same time period)... would need Gayle on the bench though - him and Bayo up front would be a wet dream.

Tricky to answer too many good players!

Bayo or Hubertz
JJOT or Hunter
Warburton or Gypes
Sampson or Carlisle

Sounds like a riddle for GPC to solve based on form, ability and season circumstances.

I wish we got to see more of him, but Kyle Walker is one of the first name on my team sheets. I guess the same can be said about Gabor Gyepes too.

Bunn

Walker Chambers Gyepes Buchanan

Holmes O'Toole Hargreaves Smith

Richards Bayo

That was the only reason I didn’t go for gyepes or walker - they were class but only played for us 15 and 9 times respectively.

Crikey Sainty thought Brian Harvey was a few decades earlier. Like your sub of Frankie too. Not a criticism just innocent comment. Cool

ps and the late great Cliff Holton too, easily our best ever centre-forward. In fact, I support this selection as I just have to succumb to the temptation. Everitt as well - the original ladies man! Or was that Alec Ashworth? No Theo Foley the 100yd run up penalty specialist? Why have so many forgotten Eddie Eddie?

1997 onwards. In terms of a balanced and complemented side, I would go for:

Bunn

Crowe
Chambers
Gyepes
Buchanan

Holmes
O'Toole
Brad Johnson
Jacobs

Akinfenwa
Forrester

I'd be shoehorning in Sammo and Martin Smith into my all-time favourite XI though in place of Gyepes and Jacobs.

IMO the LB selection and two centre halves are a bit suspect Cool The choice of midfield is well thought out and will work. The selection of Bayo and Forrester will also. Little and large!  Good.

Yeh, imagine if we had a Frank Large now to come on after 60 minutes and terrorise the opposition.

Don't quite know what's too suspect about Chambers and Gyepes, one of whom is the current captain of a Championship side and the other widely regarded as one of the most talented defenders we've ever had, but each to their own I guess Grin

I do love a little and large partnership up front though!
