http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/news/Grosvenor-owners-say-expansion-will.6337226.jpCan I be the first person to ask "Who are Legal & General?" I thought they were an insurer, so why do they own the Grosvener Centre? I'm not thick but I don't understand. Seems that Brian Binley doesn't like the letter, as usual. Oh and, suprisingly, Richard Church does.

Legal and General like all big companies will have an invest arm/division.
They would have brought the Grosvenor Centre with a view to doing it up and then selling it on for a profit a few years later, therefore making Legal and General more profit..
I agree with Binners on this one, talk is cheap and i'll only believe it when i see work being started.

The letter was basically L & G blackmailing NBC. I find the timing a bit suspicious after Tesco said they wanted to turn the old Royal Mail sorting office into a 'food shop'. L & G are basically telling NBC 'We are still here and we still want to expand the Grosvenor Shopping Centre... We're not telling you when we are planning to do it, we are just reminding you that if you approve an out of town of development we will not expand the Grosvenor Centre'

The place don't need development, it needs knocking down and starting again, along with a few more shops. Most places this size have far better shopping facilities now. The recession being the best time to develop and invest for the future. Alternatively build everything onto the retail parks we have now and build a theme park or anything in the town centre! In 30 years the place has been wrecked by poor decision making and I feel sorry for anyone who has tried to run an honest business there.

You can't knock it down and start again because a) there will be the same amount of space as before and b) where will all of the shops currently there go? That's right, they'll close and the many independent shops will not be able to return.
