The Supporters' Trust welcomes any initiative which benefits our loyal supporter base - but is bemused by the club’s decision to offer subsidised travel to the Bury away game through only one of the Northampton Town travel clubs. The Trust feel this offer is partial and should instead reach out to all fans, irrespective of how they travel to away games and who they travel with. We feel this offer may marginalise many other loyal supporters who prefer to go to away games by car or rail or who prefer to use the other travel clubs, particularly at a time when the team can do with all the support it can get. If the club wishes to reward loyal fans, a better course of action may have been to offer subsidised ticket prices for anyone travelling to a selected away game, be it Bury or any of our remaining away trips. While the scheme, in spirit, is a good one and we are glad the club is open to such ideas, we are very disappointed that the club has not consulted with us on how this could be executed to ensure it fairly rewards ALL of our away supporters. We intend to raise this in at an upcoming meeting we have with the club before the end of the month.

Should we read anything into the fact that it has been offered to a travel club other than the Trust travel club? Is this in any way indicative of the relationship between the club and the Trust?
If the offer had been made to the Trust but not the others I doubt it would have raised an eyebrow, based on the "close relationship", or the fact we were the first club to have a supporters trust......but my eyebrows were certainly raised when I saw this last week.
Not stirring up sh1t by the way.....just curious to understand how this has come about.

You reflect my first thought entirely! What should be a 'good news' story has left me concerned when we need EVERY supporter at Bury.

Completely agree. I was extremely surprised to see the bus travel only applied to one travel club.

Probably is better to not try at all, than to only half try. Imagine if we decided to subsidise a home game, but then it turns out only one of the stands gets to be subsidised?

I don't think it's indicative of the relationship to be honest, as equally the Independents haven't been chosen for this scheme either. I think it's a nice idea, but it just wasn't thought through properly as to how it might make fans who don't use Sixfields Travel feel.

Perfect analogy. Great idea to subsidise the travel and I must admit I only read the headline so didn't realise it was being done this way.

A curious gesture....surely a better / fairer way would be to offer to subsidise the entrance tickets with a contribution, across the board, to all the loyal supporters who travel regularly on the other 2 Supporters Coaches or travel by train or private car.
We need all the support possible for a situation that is becoming more dire by the minute !

It’s a strange decision to reward just one travel club. Should be the Trust Coache x 4! Plus that minibus with the toughs in it. Special assistance for Coolie, Dan and the choir boys.

I think the club do that in a way. They offer a much reduced season ticket price for the north upon early payment. As has been said, subsided entrance to the game would be fairer all round. Since I don't travel by coach to away games and never have, what's the problem with supporters using the cheaper option offered by the club to travel to Bury? They can always return to their favourite choice of travel coach for the next away game if that then suits them. That option is open to supporters who travel by car and train also.

I'll be there, with or without subsidy but do wholeheartedly agree with Barton's OP.

Is there a risk that some people who normally travel on the other two coaches will defect to Sixfields travel, even if it is only for one game, which means that Trust and St James run half full coaches and actually end up losing money out of this??

During Thursdays meeting, did the trust ask why ? or is it a topic that should be explored more fully at a later stage?
