Was Overs, this came up in an earlier topic about the smallest league gate against Chester the following season. I think I was there for that as well but got a bit confused about the whole thing.

Wonder who did the hat trick of the Fulham. Villa and Chester games.
Melbourne, the Chester game wasn't played the season after the Villa game. It was two seasons after.

Yes I was. I was at the replay at brum. When I left the ground, I dicovered that a thief had tried to pinch the fog and spotlight from my motorcycle. There was very thick fog on the way home, I stayed close to the hard shoulder all the way down the M1 AND CARS WERE GOING PAST ME AT VERY HIGH SPEED. CRAZY DRIVING.

If I remember rightly, didn't we have over 10,000 at the Tranmere game before that because you needed a ticket from earlier games to get one for the Villa game?

Wasn't the Tranmere game before the Man Utd game? I was at the Fulham and Villa games but not the Chester game.

Thinking about it, I was probably conceived around the time of the game. Actually, best not to think about it too much...

Put me down for all three. I think defender is getting mixed up with the League cup in the 70's when we had a second replay against York City at Villa Park and the winners, us, played Villa in the next round. We played Tranmere in a F A Cup replay at the County Ground when we knew the winners were at home to Man Utd, the game where the gave out vouchers was around a week later against Bradford PA.

Yes, he is. That (1970/71?) Villa game at a packed County Ground was my debut Cobblers match, in front of over 15,000. My dad then took me to Villa Park for the replay in front of 27,000(?). We lost 3-1, but I was hooked. I assumed all Cobbler's matches were played in such atmospheres.  Shocked Undecided Embarrassed

The two games where the vouchers were handed out was Crewe and Vale. If I remember rightly there was over 10,000 for the crewe game.

I was there...should anyone care!
14,529 packed into the County Ground, 4000 Villa maybe...
Walters turning on a sixpence to score!

Too young to know about off the field activities, though remember a Villa beanie hat being burnt in the Hotel End!

Spoke to some Villa Youth some years later who said the Spion Kop literally shook with the weight when they scored...thought they were in for a disaster!
