Charlton have just changed their manager and immediately beat a Plymouth side who had only lost once since November.

They’ll beat us too.

Crooks and Grimes together in centre midfield is a tried and tested failure that Jimbo seemingly can’t wait to repeat.

They beat Plymouth yes, but had only won once in their previous 8 games.

Is Harry Kewell going to have an immediate impact? It's a surprise appointment IMO and probably just another man through the revolving door at the Valley (until new owners come in).

On paper yes they should beat us, but I really think we will cause an upset tomorrow.

Correct . Something has to change otherwise the results will stay the same .
Start by someone else taking free kicks because Grimes is woeful at it .
Play Ariyibiand Berto wide where they should be and Long back up front .
For me , I would play McWilliams as well .
Don’t change and we will be down by the end of Easter effectively

Keeping the three at the back or reverting to 4-4-2?

For me , it’s the three mate because Bunney can only operate as a wing back and he won’t play Buchanan .
Also , we are more creative this way .
People may say Moloney is a weakness there but I think he has played well in the two games I have seen in that position ( I didn’t go to Fleetwood though ) and is absolutely fine there .
Long is our best striker and he has to play him , preferably alongside VV in a two .

I'd like to see Long and Luccassen. Big Kev looks like he could be a useful player.

So just one central midfielder? Would certainly be attacking, something like:

                     R'OD

         Moloney Ash Turnbull

Facey                                Bunney

                 McWilliams
      Berto                      Ariyibi

                  VV
                          Long

Didn't Jimmy have a short spell at Charlton in his playing days? Apologies if already mentioned.

I agree that Kewell is a strange appointment...by the basis that they chose him they could well have asked Jimmy himself!

I'm going for a belting 3-2 win...ever the optimist.

      Berto                      Ariyibi

                  VV
                          Long

That's basically the formation we played away at Posh last season when we got humped.

I agree on getting Berto and Ariyibi on the pitch together in advanced postions. So if we go 3 at the back play them behind a lone striker. If we go 4 at the back play them wide with 2 up front.

Unpopular opinion time: IMO Bunney could play left back in a 4 but we would need to defend/press higher as a team. There is no point playing an attacking full back in a team that aims to sit deep, hold it's shape and be tactically disciplined. Especially when he has only been a defender for a year. He did ok in his early games for us but it is like he's had the attacking side of his game coached out of him.

This would be good to see, despite the fact I think Lucky deserves another start.

I know Jimmy has put out some weird and wonderful line-ups this season but I think even he would struggle to pick a team with 12 players in it  Grin

Chelsea, Tottenham and now England are all enjoying this formation. I really enjoy the style of play it brings... plenty of creativity in the right places, and defensively sound through the middle. Definitely need a Van Veen type striker to link up the two 'forwards' in my opinion though.

Agree 100%. Can be a nightmare to play against if the movement of the 2 behind the striker is good as well. Keeping 3 at the back and having width from the wing-backs is a plus as well

I think you are one of the first to include Crooks; that formation looks ok although vV and Poole are notable omissions.

Crooks is a funny one; when he's playing well he is excellent. But he goes missing quite a bit too. I'd forgotten about Poole; is he match fit after being left out of the squad for so long?? KVV is certainly not fit enough currently.
