Steve Brown, another we could do with right now. Can't remember him doing a great deal with Wycombe.
Browny made nearly 400 appearances for Wycombe, so he must have been OK for them !

Wow , I stand corrected , I had it in my mind he was about 28 when he left us but obviously was a lot younger.

Eric Sabin
Im glad someone said Eric, thats the first player I thought of when I saw the title of the thread! I remember reading the Swindon Town forum just after we'd signed him. Like a lot of us do these days, when a signings made we look up to see what the fans of the club he played for previously thought. 99% of the time we get what it says on the tin. In Erics case, we got the complete opposite!

Others from that era , Ali Gibb and Christian Lee , both rated as £1m players by IA 🤦♂️
Browny was captain on their FA cup run to either the quarter or semi final wasn’t he? Ended up being a Wycombe legend so I heard?

Wasnt he in temporary charge, when Hull stuffed us 1-5 in 2003?

An Oxford supporting mate never rated Hargreaves and could never understand what I saw in him.

Steve Massey - did ok for us and then left and never did any good. Also Jack Cross who I think signed for SU; saw him a few times a fine player. Mind you this must be in the late 50's and saw him a few times in half term hols etc. JACK CROSS Born: Bury d.o.b: 5 February 1927 Died : 2006 Position: Centre Forward Teams Seasons Apps. Gls. I must admit he's exactly the player I love to watch, a super fast striker and if there's any ball skills it's a bonus. Apparently he was told on the last day of the transfer window in 2005 he was off to Oxford. No discussion at all. I was also a fan of Junior Mendes for the same reason, I wonder what happened to him?

A lot of names mentioned far before my time but thank you all for your answers. Interesting that we found so few good examples. Sampson was probably the best answer but my knowledge if incomplete on some others.

I seem to remember him scoring against us at some point late 90's..Then giving our crowd some stick.. Dean Peer...not that he was exceptional, but fitted in well to the Atkins game plan ..

Loved Dean Peer...particularly for his goal at Watford that sparked a mini pitch invasion when we were one and two in the league (L1) and at home to Fulham in a 1-0 home win that was being beamed back to Craven Cottage in the era where Fulham were the mega bucks team of that level. All of their star signings outdone by a galloping cart horse!
