Long stretches defences equally as well as sammy. Watch his goal at Oxford. The continual long balls and tripe lack of service have been the bigger issue
I don't agree. Long is a decent goalscorer (much better than Hoskins), but he doesn't have anything like Hoskins' pace, which means that Hoskins wins balls by outpacing the defender moving in to wider positions, whereas Long is often be beaten to the ball by the defender in the same situations.

I honestly don't think DA would just be the cheap option, but the right one.
He has somehow galvanised the whole club/supporters & I think it would be a backwards step appointing anyone else.
He's really bought back the feel good factor & I don't believe it's just the standard "new manager bounce" He's struck up a real affinity with the fans & the players finally know their jobs, after the JFH player/tactics roulette
He's had to work with the same squad JFH had, but the transition is night & day....I have actually enjoyed going to games under DA, knowing we are at least trying to win.
He knows all about the current squad & where improvements are needed, so again, he's well ahead of any other candidate imo
No one can guarantee any managerial appointment will be a success, but DA deserves a crack if he wants it imo
Nail on head.

Page, JED, JFH all had experience................
GA sacked from his last 2 appointments.
Average league finishing position in league 1 has been 6th - I'd take that! Look at the impact an experienced Martin Allen has done for Barnet too! No success is guaranteed - my opinion is we give our selves the best chance this way. As others have said if were going for the cheap option it will be Austin

I am now more inclined to give the job to DA (if he wants it!).
CONTINUITY is a major factor we have not had since CW.I believe in League 2 McWilliams and Foley will give a shield to the back four. Therefore the only signings to prioritise are the strikers (at least 3).
Not only did we have a massive turnover of players with the expense that incurs BUT when we had the new players they were either played out of position, with the wrong formation or chop and changed so no cohesion could be gained.
In DA we trust........hopefully!

Agree with you about the midfielders, so many if's at this moment in time though but those two would be good together and tick the affordability box as well regardless of finances. Unless we flog McWilliams of course! I bloody hope we don't. With regards to strikers, id say two. Hoskins and Waters (remember him!) will be fine as the short ars/pacy type. So we would need a couple of taller, more central options. Basically to replace Van V and Lucky. Id actually like us to keep the latter, if his wage demands are sensible. I reckon he'd be brilliant in league2. So in that case, just one decent goal scorer/focal forward.

I think you will prob find the turnover of players will be massive again regardless of who is in charge. Your right tho Foley (this might be his level) and McWilliams should both be still here and should give decent cover

While I feel you are probably right here with a massive turnover of player again this summer, it's alrming that we have had 3 compeltely new sqauds since Wilder has left. This has to be a contributing factor to our subsequent downfall. So stability has to to be key with the next manager appointment, that way we can stabilise the sqaud.

all 4 of those strikers are awful for different reasons - they would all need replacing.

You seem to be in the know about lots of things internally at the club, so if you want a bet then I suspect you have inside knowledge ..and at 2/5 for Austin i doubt you'd be taking those odds.. SO..Who would your money be on?

The more I read from DA the more I think he is right for the job. He knows the club, knows the players has shown similar drive and determination to Wilder, they seem to have a similar ethos. Seems like the manager to always get the best from the players and must be fairly well connected in the game. I don't want another manager from the pool of failures and if we are going to take on a punt on an unproven manager then the risk is lower with DA. He gets my vote (I'm well aware of what my vote is worth)

To be honest I thought I would want to see an experienced manager, but considering the players opinion of Austin and how they seem to have improved I would give him a shot at it, if the players actually want to play for him and he seems to motivate them well too, then with the quality we have that is half the battle won. We bring someone else in, they would without doubt want a their own players own staff, that would mean paying alot of well paid players off, which we probably cant afford. the only way it would work is if the new manager has been to all the games and training and knows about all the players, I cant see us being that well organised.
