Was he asked if he wanted the job permanently?
Whilst I haven’t heard the interview yet, despite any answer he may have given, I’ve a feeling he does?

Totally gets my backing for his view on loan players - never works but there are still a couple more who should go ASAP in my opinion

I like Austin .
He says it as it is .
This club is never going to do anything in division 1 with silky football .
We will only advance with team spirit and honest players .
I think Austin understands that .
There’s no point employing lads with a billy big b*llocks attitude - we need characters that stick together and play together.
The manager has to replicate that

Was he asked if he wanted the job permanently?

I asked Densely from Radio Northampton on Twitter....

She said she asked him and he said "let's see at the end of the season"

Was he asked if he wanted the job permanently?

He was, and he gave precisely the answer you would expect to hear. “Not thinking about that until the end of the season”. His tone hinted that he would want it going forwards, though.

It’s a really good interview, best part of 12-14 minutes at the start of Radio Northampton’s Friday Night Sport show.

Quite honestly , if Dean and Jon show that they understand what makes a club like ours tick - then I’m all for them taking it on .
Dean has got true spirit within his character and Jon is a fantastic coach .
If they click , and get a team spirit going then let’s go got it .
So much of it is about getting the chemistry right .
We are never going to afford the best players and so it has to come from within - as it did under the legends Wider and Knill .

Just listened to the interview and feel much the same as most of the posters here. Heartening stuff to give us all a glimmer of hope for this season and perhaps beyond. Great to hear talk of fight, belief  and commitment. JFH used these words too, but with him that's all they sounded like - just words. DA sounds much more convincing.

Great video.  If KT looks at this site, and I’d be surprised if he didn’t, that will put DA first in the queue. Just needs the team to show some promise now to get him over the line

Saying what 99% of coaches would say in our predicament. Talk is cheap.

What would the other 1% say, out of curiosity?

It’s not what you say, it’s the way that you say it.

Talk is cheap.

That is obviously true, but JFH could have said the same thing and would clearly not have had the same encouraging effect on the fans, because HIS version of fight, commitment and good performances seemed to be different from the vast majority of fans. We will soon see if DA's team lives up to his words.

I think the point is that Austin comes across as rather less sterile than JFH.

Of course it is. The proof will be in the pudding. Let's face it, most caretaker partnerships fail miserably at our club. I do have to say, though; I was very impressed with the way he put himself across, and I absolutely believe he will do everything in his power to try and turn this season around. I think we may well see a very different NTFC between now and the end of the season, with a few surprise selections.

Let's face it, this is the start of a massive four days which could well define our season. We need results to go for us today. And then we need to turn Blackpool over. If both these scenarios go against us, it'll be almost impossible. With a bit of luck, and a lot of tenacity...it's doable! And a couple of new legends will have earned their place in NTFC folklore. Wink

He is saying the right stuff for sure. Lets hope it transpires onto the pitch.

Much happier with him in charge than Jimmy.

You are correct talk is cheap ... which reminds me,  how is your crowd funding going to build a new stand,  and your little safe standing campaign?  #peopleinglasshouses

Realistic comment; let’s hope they get the team selection right. Upbeat talk is fine but performance has to match the talk.

Angry Alfred😂
So you're against progression of the club or are you just taking cheap shots? 😉

I like what Austin has said todate and I think his players will relate to him and go that extra mile needed to grind out results.
No ideas as to his prefered style of play and we probably wont see much of it as it will be horses for courses to achieve what is the near imposible.
Good luck to him.

Interview was a mixed bag. On the one hand, he said he's been in the players' ears, which clearly had little/ no impact. On the other, he's clearly very positive and hard-working. All comes down to whether or not he can inspire the players to perform anywhere near their potential. If we go down fighting, putting in some decent performances along the way, DA still has a good chance of being made permanent.
