We’ve been dead and buried before. Just a little reminder with words of wisdom from Dave Bowen

For those that may have short memories, the NTFC support on that momentous day in Shrewsbury was driven on by a few hard-core Bury fans, in the stands right next to the massed crowd of Cobblers.....  Yes, Bury fans!!!!!

My biggest source of pride in NTFC's history is that, having witnessed the mad impeachment of those Bury fans, at half time, myself & my fellow, travelling cobbler's fan started an atmosphere of "come on, we can do this".  By the end of half-time, the chorus had built up to a believing "We can win this".  The Cobblers were being cheered out as conquering heroes, despite being 0-2 down........  The rest is history.

(For those that weren't there, the atmosphere would have made your deaf, dumb, blind granny s*** herself.)

I'm sure that, at least 500 of the 2,500 that were there will attest that they led the 5,000 in chorus that made the 17,000 believe, thus leading to a magnificent result in front of 32,000 delighted Cobbler fans.

Just don't let West Mids police take it all away.......

If you watch the full video you get to see a lot more supporters, myself included. This led to a lot of tenuous comments on the hotel end (stand not forum) such as “you can see me jump over the fence at the final whistle wearing a cocktail skirt, a bowler hat and carrying a copy of the radio times”etc. Still reckon Peterborough away 86/87 was right up there with atmosphere though? Also, quite good to see the old players, Mickey Bell is now manager at Clevedon Town apparently?

Peterborough '86-'87 is a blur.

But, I vaguely remember a game around then in the cup, at home to the P@@@, on a Sunday.....

I had made a rare appearance in goal (normally, I did the O'Toole role) for my Sunday team that morning.  I caught a glancing blow from a swinging foot as I dived amongst the feet to retrieve the ball.  The Ref gave a foul, but, I was up ready to give the miscreant something in return.  Sadly, all went blank, and a moment or 2 later, I was sideways on the turf.  More sadly, I was subbed.  Very sadly, I have no other recollection of the game at the County Ground, despite otherwise having driven home, changed, then off to the match.

Even more sadly, I remember only fleeting moments stood near the front of the Hotel End (yes, I remember that bit).  I believe the God that was Wakely Gage scored a Frank Rankmore in front of the Spion Kop.......

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Don’t remember much about the home game, other than they built a temporary stand on the cricket side and it was still rammed. Benjy scored in the away game on Jan 31st. Remember Noel Cantwell getting a lot of stick due to comments he’d made pre match. Also remember some Poo fans in the bottom of the stand next to the away end getting quite aggressive until some Cobblers fans in the tier above emptied the contents of their flasks on them. I’m sure health and safety would have something to say about that kind of behaviour these days?
