Decent afternoon's entertainment, that. Thought we faded towards the end but very telling that KvV was left on the bench and didn't even warm up meaning Sammy didn't get a breather.
After the antics of the Oldham fans all afternoon I was glad to bring them down with us. Look forward to seeing their regular 50-100 supporters back in the away end next season.
So begins the latest rebuilding job!

Agree about the Oldham fans, went into the game not caring who else went down, immediately decided the Oldham fans were bellends and wanted Rochdale to stay up.
I thought our performance was okay, Oldham were really awful though.

Just a few random thoughts on the game - I can't believe how quiet the Oldham fans were in the second half when all they needed was a goal to stay up. I'd like to think if the boot was on the other foot we'd have been sucking the ball into the net. I thought McWilliams and grimes had decent games - such a shame grimes was wasted as an auxiliary centre back by JFH all season as since he's pushed up the field he's really shown what he's capable of. For their second goal jjot was badly at fault in not marking his man at the far post - one of the smallest men on the pitch had a free header. I've seen some others on here say that Powell had a good game but I thought he was pretty average - when he got shifted onto the tight when bridge came on I assume it was to help moloney out as their left winger was a danger but he left him exposed on several occasions. Finally despite earning the penalty I thought Hoskins was exposed at times - whoever is manager next season needs to focus on somehow sourcing at least 1 prolific striker as Hoskins will be lucky to get 5.

Just to bring a little balance we took 2000 to Walsall last week when we usually take around 500.
As you were.

Yeah, that confused me too...especially when they knew for certain that Rochdale had won. With five minutes of stoppage time you'd have expected them to be a bit more urgent in the stands. Maybe they were embarrassed about their premature throwing of flares and pitch invasions.

That was an awful game played out by 2 hopeless teams. We have a massive squad but I'm struggling to think of more than 5 I'd like to see at the club next season. The team celebrated the draw at the end like it was keeping us up.

I wouldn't say it was an awful game in terms of the spectacle...quality lacking, sure, but it was an entertaining evening.

I told you familiar names would be missing : Long and Facey . I’m surprised Van Veen is on the bench but I suppose if we are paying him that much he has to do something . Still no Bunney .
Long was in the stands along with Crooks

That was a thoroughly entertaining evening, one of the more enjoyable Sixfields games this season. Nothing riding on it for us of course but our fans were first class and you can see and feel the unity and pride that Dean Austin has restored to the club. Let's bottle that up and take it into next season. It didn't feel like the wake in the face of relegation I expected. Oldham fans were loud and raucous early on but just seemed to give up later on, odd. I'm sure they will eventually enjoy their League Two adventure after years of struggling in League One.

I personally thought the side played ok and overall performed well for Austin. That might appear to be a contradiction in terminology but hope the point is not missed. However, the problems are still there with defensive frailties occurring quite often during the game leading to two goals. The other problem is up front where, to be frank, we looked a bit toothless. Hoskins did expose their defenders with his pace and with the right pass he is a bit of menace. The trouble is he lacks the guile to make more of his runs and does not appear to be sharpshooter. Bridges does not look quite up to it. Powell played well and really worked hard both in attack and defence. He appears a bit predictable at times but when he puts his head down which he did second half he is quite a force. JJOT for me was MOM, strong in the tackle and showed some neat footwork and his unbridled enthusiasm when we scored was there to see. Is he really off? Seems to me he enjoys it here. Grimes had a decent game and has been a transformed player since Austen's appointment. Taylor played well but seems to have lapses but he does score goals just when we need them. Buchanan had a good game whilst Moloney had a patchy game often contriving to make their winger look good. Barnett was the pick of the defence having an assured game with a belter of a shot on goal which led to our second goal. Still, Oldham was not up to much and like us are relegated for a reason or two! Thought their strike force was just heavyweights in disguise 'as forwards'. Liked the attitude of our crowd; wanted to win at all costs with supporters in the rows behind me were going berserk. Appreciation of Austin went up a notch or two on the way he managed the side today. They gave their all for him on a no win day in hot sunshine; they were playing for him, the supporters, the Club and above all their self-esteem. Its a great pity we didn't win or even draw at Walsall as today's game was made for a dramatic showdown. Austen has done well over the past four games and may well get the job; it is just that OTT Walsall substitution which haunts me. Still if he gets the job he should be supported on here and elsewhere.
