Hi all,
Really sorry for my complete ignorance on this, but I'm relatively new to supporting football (Cobblers since Rob Page days....how sad) - Can someone explain precisely how the club will take a huge dip in income being relegated from League 1 to League 2? I understand that possibly some punters won't want to go so that one is obvious - so apart from that, how exactly do the club get less money ?
I know in the top leagues they get parachute payments and also Sky TV fees...but League 1/2 ?
Sorry if this has been asked before, and hope to receive some insightful answers !
Many thanks Sean.

Don't know how much but tv money is less.
Ignore Beds, that isn't loss of revenue as we don't have boxes now.
We also won't lose 1500 fans.

Premier League solidarity payments were (I believe) £650k for L1 teams but only £430k for L2 clubs last year, so there's a big chunk. I think the TV money that filters down is in a similar proportion, you won't get as much from advertisers as a lower profile club, plus smaller away support and overall reduced attendances. It all adds up.

Solidarity payments this season were £645k for league 1 and £430k for league 2 Tv revenue was £184,500 for league 1 and £119.200 for league 2
So those reductions mean £280 k less as a result of relegation.

Also gates from away fans will be down as the clubs in League 2 are on average smaller and have smaller away support.

It all depends on what position the away team is in, but Swindon, Notts County, Coventry, MK and Cambridge ahave brought decent crowds with them in previous encounters. Sure there will be teams who may not bring many (e.g. Forest Green) but the loss in revenue from away games might not be too bad.

Lincoln City, Grimsby and Carlisle always take a good following away also. Even the likes of Exeter, Barnet and Port Vale have done in the past. Like you say it all depends on their position and also what day we play them, Saturdays will always get more than a Tuesday night.

No, we just need terracing and then it doesn't matter who, when or how they're doing and the away end will sell out every match

It's been mentioned already! What hasn't, is that Accrington Stanley are up, hopefully, Morecambe (despite Lancaster being a great day out) will be down this Saturday...surely re-addressing the balance!

shared terracing will also attract many more younger fans of ours. Youre getting the hang of it now😉

Let's not pretend that dropping to League 1 is anything other than bad news. If you follow the Accrington chairman on social media you'll see how desperate he was to escape League 2 as he sees the higher leagues uncoupling from the rest and pushing away financially. We need to be a league 1 club and we should have been still.

Don't forget sustainable growth and a small but dedicated sales team.

Revenue dropping is only an issue if you continue to spend at the same rate.
Besides, it's arguable that if we're around the top 5 or 6 playing decent stuff, home attendances could well be up on that watching this years turgid trash.
So sure, we may lose £250k on TV and handouts but guessing player wage cuts are designed to cover at least that.
sure that won't stop a lot of alarmists though....

Good Afternoon!
I am sorry for Cobblers fans that you are relegated, and my 90 year old Mum who is a big fan! However for me it's good news as I get a nice local game to see my team, Newport County. (And MK Burglars!) I think most fans quickly adjust to whichever league their team is in, victories are savoured whatever the league and certainly it must wear you down constantly struggling in a league above your current ability level. So many factors affect how a season will pan out, managers, players, financial backing and just Luck. As fans we live in the moment, sometimes that moment is ninety minutes long or can be a season long, but it comes crashing down again at some point! Whilst you guys have had a poor season as fans , I have had a good one, this time last year I was at Newport , 5 minutes from dropping back into non league, which had took 25 years to get back from!
Best Wishes to all Cobblers fans, and you will be cheering again hopefully next season!
Phil in Npton
