Fair play to the club for sorting a friendly against a Man Utd eleven. Should get a bit of interest.
Mainly youngsters as the first team squad are in the US, I think. But the name will draw some in hopefully at least. Probably see Regan Poole playing against us.

Might see some of the Welly Road plastic Man U fans venture up. Nah probably still too much effort.

Especially as they're marketing it as a Manchester United XI and not Manchester United U23's

There might be a couple of first teamers who have been at the world cup and need some match fitness if they havent played a lot

Here's hoping, although I cannot see any of the below not going to the US.
Current Utd players at the World Cup:
ENGLAND Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard
ARGENTINA Marcus Rojo
FRANCE Paul Pogba
SPAIN David De Gea
SWEDEN Victor Lindelof
BELGIUM Romelu Lukaku Marouane Fellaini (May have left by then anyway)
Serbia Nemanja Matic

Anyone else feel like our pre-season opposition are lacking some quality?
That said, Wigan last year went into the season having just absolutely battered some non-league team. Maybe it will be good to win a few and start the season with confidence high (assuming we win of course). I'd expect us to win every one of those friendlies.

Yeah a little, Barnet are the closest thing we play to what our actual opposition will be like in the league. I would have liked to have had one of the teams who got promoted to league one last season, as well as a league 2 team, plus Barnet. To get a feel for where we are at. The lower league teams (Sileby, Brackley etc) at the beginning is par for the course, its all about building up fitness at that point of pre season.

not really. I a doubt a man utd 11 or the under 23's will be lacking quality. Will certainly be the equivalent of most championship sides. I don't see the point in playing teams where we only have 20% of possession.. But that's my opinion

Here's the United XI who faced Wigan in pre-season 2016, fwiw... Fixtures against Barnet and a Man Utd XI added to the calendar.
Far better than Championship sides they could have gone for.

I don't think we will see any "big name" players, but they should give us a decent test if they are all at the level of Regan Poole.

Should be a big crowd at Sileby next week now that it clashes with England's game against Colombia. A bit of a shame for Sileby, they normally get a decent crowd in for this game.

Good point, surely there's scope to try and rearrange - I bet even both sets of players would rather watch England!

I think they will re-arrange. Crowd size will be affected massively otherwise. Mon or Weds probably.

I hope so. They've missed a trick moving it from a Sat 3pm in any case, let alone with England being on!

No it isn't. We asked them about changing the date but it's not possible. The game will be screened in the lounge.
