I don't know what the club are thinking. Anyone would have thought preseason was about getting the players fit and bonded together as a group instead of providing a nice jolly for the fans. If this is how DA is going to operate he might as well do one now. DA out! Roll Eyes

Surprised at this outburst BoN and you a vV man too. Wink

Golf is a big part of the Cobblers hierarchy.  Let them enjoy the fun, as well as their work on the side in getting next season's plan ready while the players sweat it out.

If the squad is pretty much staying together, then, the 2-3 sessions per day over the 1 week will be perfect for getting the "never say die" attitude ingrained.  That is far better than other pre-seasons, when just 4 of the starting line-up were part of the pre-season camp.

I feel the need to check how much moth damage has been inflicted on my tent, and get the Morgan ready for a road trip.

It's perfectly possible to mix a pre-season that is good for players and also good for fans.

you also said it was possible for you to raise funds to build a crowd sponsored stand at the ground. how is that coming along?

It is possible for supporters to fan-fund infrastructure improvements as was proved with the new stand at Stevenage via mini-bonds from Tifosy. https://www.tifosy.com/en/explore

The Cobblers are privately owned, largely by David Bower so not very realistic for me to start construction at his club. Cheers.

i thought you had started this plan years ago..............or did you just type it on here and expect it to magically happen?!

like you thought if we typed a place in europe on here that the club would immediately plan a pre-season tour to go there to accommodate you?

Tbh I've largely given up trying as it's like banging your head against a brick wall. I'm responding to the originator of this thread who clearly contacted the club with his own suggestion and didn't get very far.

Oxford City as opponents? Sounds decent given he has contacts there and it is solid opposition and good event for the fans.

Antwerp as someone else has suggested? Good idea, great city let's look into it.

I've contacted the club a few times after researching locations, opponents etc. As I said last time when we ended up in a fairly remote Spanish golf hotel (notice the theme). Then Kelvin's team West Ham end up in Hamburg, one of the places I suggested and their fans have a brilliant trip mixing a great city with football heritage and making links to others clubs.

Also suggested other UK team with strong fan bases (both league & non-league) that will bring value to the club and fans as opponents. Club are polite but when the fixtures come out it's the same dull fixtures.

Honestly getting bored talking about this now, good luck getting Oxford City Coolcat, I hope we get them one Summer.

Opportunity missed again. Why not build a mini-tour around opposition with a decent fan scene and a city break thrown in? It's these little details which make a club and it's not something the Cobblers are that good at. Could be so much better.

What is wrong with Alicante?

yes, no-one had heard of Hamburg until you suggested it - well done.

you will be pleased to know i have written to the EFL and all fixtures that you cannot attend this year will be postponed to a more suitable date, and any that are too far for you to travel to will be relocated accordingly.

plus, i have also suggested wembley as a possible venue for cup finals.

easy this bulls***ting lark

he was invited, but was too busy making up tour venues for the club or fundraising to build stands, or at least typing about them on here anyway.

shame, it was a good night.

What is wrong with Alicante?
When I was a kid, always wanted my parents to take me there, just to stay in the brilliant looking (4 star - ooh  Cheesy) Hotel Melia, which protudes out to the Med!

Tbf, had really decent reply from Gareth Wilsher regarding OCFC friendly, basically saying will pass on to secretary who plans these (with manager) but has concerns that Deano preferring grass to 3G...which is understandable!

Good news, proves that if you ask the question and/or make a realistic suggestion, it isn't ignored.
